In today’s film news roundup, “Melrose Place” star Jamie Luner joins “Honeymoon in Paradise,” Vera Farmiga joins “The Front Runner,” Abramorama and Gravitas acquire documentaries and Sony Pictures gets to work on the thriller “Nightlight.”

Jamie Luner is starring in Odyssey Media’s romantic comedy “Honeymoon in Paradise” with shooting starting in October in the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia, Variety has learned exclusively.

The producer is Kirk Shaw, who has producing credits on “Life and Death of John Gotti” and “Papa Hemingway in Cuba.” David DeCoteau is directing from a script by Julia Holdway, in which two exes are contestants on a new romantic reality TV series filming at Saint Lucia’s Coconut Bay Resort and Spa.

The 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out on Sunday evening at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, and NBC’s Days of Our Lives and CBS’ The Young and the Restless led the soap opera pack with six total wins each, including trophies picked up at the Creative Arts ceremony.

ABC’s General Hospital — this year’s Best Drama winner — and CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful followed with five total wins apiece.

2017 Daytime Emmy Awards Nominations: ‘Ellen’ and ‘The View’ Among Nominees

The National Academy of Television has announced the nominations for the 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards. “The Young and the Restless” leads the pack with 25 nods, including Outstanding Drama Series, two bids for Outstanding Lead Actress for Gina Tognoni and Jess Walton, and two for Outstanding Lead Actor for Peter Bergman and Kristoff St. John.

Competing for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show are “The View,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Maury,” “Live With Kelly,” and “The Talk.” The ladies of “The View” are also in the run for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Hosts.

The 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place April 30, in Pasadena, California. See below the nominees in the main categories.

Jalen Rose ABC Comedy Pilot Casts Anna Maria Horsford, Marla Gibbs

NBA star and ESPN host Jalen Rose has cast his mother and grandmother for his ABC comedy pilot, Variety has learned.

Anna Maria Horsford and Marla Gibbs have signed on to play Rose’s mother and grandmother, respectively, in Rose’s single camera comedy “Jalen vs. Everybody.”

The half-hour follows Rose as he juggles his career responsibilities with the challenges of being a single dad. The project hails from the team behind ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.” Nahnatchka Khan wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, and Mandy Summers. Aside from starring, Rose will also serve as a producer. Khan’s Fierce Baby banner is producing in association with 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has unveiled the top contenders for nominations in the Daytime Emmy Awards’ drama acting categories.

NATAS narrows the field of potential nominees through online balloting. The top 10 vote-getters in each category will advance to the next round of judging for nominations, set for Feb. 20 by blue-ribbon panels of NATAS members.

The nominations will be announced March 22 on CBS’ daytime series “The Talk.”
