Rose Byrne to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in Instant Family

Back in September it was announced that Mark Wahlberg will be reuniting with his Daddy’s Home director Sean Anders for the Paramount comedy Instant Family, and now Deadline has revealed that Wahlberg has been joined in the cast by Rose Byrne (Neighbors).

Penned by Anders and John Morris, Instant Family will see Wahlberg and Byrne as a couple who decide to adopt through the foster-care system and find themselves in over their heads raising three wild kids.

Wahlberg and Anders’ latest collaboration Daddy’s Home 2 was released in the U.S. this past weekend and opens in the UK this coming Wednesday, November 22nd. Byrne meanwhile is currently filming the Nick Hornby adaptation Juliet, Naked and is also set to star in the Peter Rabbit movie, which opens in North America in February 2018 and the UK in March 2018.

Cinema Italian Style Kicks Off in L.A. With Italy’s Best Films and Food
Cinema Italian Style fetes its 13th edition in Los Angeles with a focus on the best in Italian movies and a celebration of Italian cuisine. On opening night Thursday, the festival showcases Italy’s Oscar entry “A Ciambra” with a Q&A with writer-director Jonas Carpignano.

Luce Cinecitta is partnering with guest chef Leandro Luppi for an opening night dinner at Mr. C in Beverly Hills. Chef Luppi is the owner of Michelin-starred Vecchia Malcesni on Lake Garda.

Ten titles will screen at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica from Friday to Tuesday, including “Fortunata,” with star Jasmine Trinca attending; Gianni Amelio’s “Holding Hands,” Andrea De Sica’s “Children of the Night,” and Roberto De Paolis’ “Pure Hearts.”

Also screening are “Emma,” “Love and Bullets,” “Slam,” based on the novel by Nick Hornby, “Let Yourself Go,” “Friends By Chance” and “It’s the Law.”

Marc Webb to direct Westboro Baptist Church film This Above All

According to Variety, Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, Gifted) has signed on to direct This Above All, a feature film based on the life story of Megan Phelps-Roper, a former member of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church.

The granddaughter of Westboro founder Fred Phelps, Phelps-Roper grew up preaching the church’s hate speech, before coming to question her belief system after conversations with opponents over Twitter. She and her sister subsequently left the church, and were disowned by their family.

“Megan’s extraordinary story says so much about so many things in contemporary America, and I’m really excited about this project,” said Nick Hornby (Brooklyn, An Education), who is writing the script from Adrian Chen’s 2015 article in The New Yorker and Phelps-Roper’s upcoming autobiography. “I’m looking forward to working with the brilliant Marc Webb, CNÉ and with my friends [producers] Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea and River Road,

Channel 4 has announced a raft of new commissions, including a new comedy series from “Episodes” star Stephen Mangan that’s based on “Web Therapy” and a thriller from “Boardwalk Empire” staff writer Bash Doran.

Mangan will co-write and star in the British adaptation of the Emmy-nominated “Web Therapy.” Doran is writing period thriller “Jerusalem,” her first original for U.K. television. Channel 4 also announced a one-off documentary exploring gender fluidity and a four-part factual series featuring Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry.
