When the Today show teased that E!’s Giuliana Rancic had a big announcement this morning, it’s safe to say 99 percent of the viewers assumed she’d say her well-documented IVF treatments finally took and she was expecting her long-awaited baby.

Sadly, Rancic did not have happy news to share. She explained that before starting her third round of IVF, her doctor insisted on a mammogram. Rancic initially felt it was unnecessary but went in for the exam anyway. Unexpectedly, the test revealed that Rancic was in the early stages of breast cancer. “It was incredible instant sobbing, and it was like the world just crashed down around me,” she said of her initial reaction. “I couldn’t believe it, 36 years old, no family history.”

The Lady Trailer. Luc Besson‘s The Lady (2011) movie trailer stars Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis, Jonathan Raggett, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and William Hope. The Lady‘s plot synopsis: “The Lady is an epic love story about how an extraordinary couple and family sacrifice their happiness at great human cost for a higher cause. This is the story of Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end. A story of devotion and human understanding set against a background of political turmoil which continues today. The Lady also is the story of the peaceful quest of the woman who is at the core of Burma’s democracy movement.”

This looks like a very powerful drama. The violent subject matter in The Lady was shown in Rambo but now the viewer gets to see the oppression for vastly different, »

Michelle Yeoh puts away her butt-kicking shoes for more humble ones in Luc Besson’s “The Lady”, the teaser trailer for which you can take a gander at below. What do you think? Inspiration? Wish Michelle would jump-kick some guys in the face? Yeah, me, too, kinda. The film, starring Yeoh and David Thewlis, currently has a September 12, 2011 release date, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for a wide release. This week's new films

11 March 2011 4:07 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Norwegian Wood (15)

(Tran Anh Hung, 2010, Japan) Kenichi Matsuyama, Rinko Kikuchi, Kiko Mizuhara, Tetsuji Tamayama, Kengo Kôra. 133 mins

Between its daunting cult status and its decidedly un-romcom themes, it's amazing Haruki Murakami's proto-emo Japanese teen tale ever got made. Coming of age here is a languid, melancholy journey across tragedy, mental illness, sexual frustration and other sorrows, but the tone is beautifully maintained, visually and aurally, and it captures something most youth movies never even attempt to find.

Fair Game (12A)

(Doug Liman, 2010, Us) Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, Ty Burrell. 108 mins

What Hollywood liberal bias? This dramatisation of the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame over her husband's non-cooperation with Bush's Iraq plans dares to name names and point fingers. True-life political and personal tensions are brought back to the boil.

Battle: Los Angeles (12A)

(Jonathan Liebesman, 2011, Us) Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan. 116 mins

Review: Legacy: Black Ops

10 March 2011 11:00 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Legacy: Black Ops **

Stars: Idris Elba, Eamonn Walker, William Hope, Monique Gabriela Curnen | Written and Directed by Thomas Ikimi

The psychological ramifications of war make for engaging and thought-provoking viewing when done properly (Born On The Fourth Of July, The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now all feature characters with Ptsd symptoms). Legacy attempts to get into the mind of a combat veteran who has done unspeakable things but while the premise is interesting, it falls short in delivering a satisfying cinema experience.

Idris Elba stars as Malcolm Gray, a decorated soldier part of an undercover team codenamed Dark Hammer, who specialise in pre-emptive strikes against civilian targets, all in the name of freedom, democracy and other such ironic ideals. After finally tracking down a Ukrainian with a stockpile of sarin gas, the operation goes badly wrong resulting in his squad’s capture and his horrific torture.

Giant Arachnids Attack Drive Angry 3Ds Playboy Hottie Christa Campbell in Spiders 3D

28 February 2011 | Horror Asylum | See recent Horror Asylum news »

Big ruddy spiders isn't exactly the most original horror concept, however, one thing that'll make Tibor Takacs' ('Ice Spiders') new giant arachnid flick 'Spiders 3D' worth watching (aside from the hairy legged 3D effects) will be the appearance of ex-Playboy model Christa Campbell ('Drive Angry 3D'). The damn fine hottie stars alongside Patrick Muldoon ('Starship Troopers'), William Hope, Johnny Yong Bosch, Shelly Varod, Sydney Sweeney, Christian Contreras and Atanas Srebrev in the eight legged 3D-fest that has just wrapped in Bulgaria. If you can't wait to see what Crista gets up too then head down to your local theatre and check out the totally nude honey fighting and frolicking with Amber Heard in 'Drive Angry 3D'. »
