When Eddie Redmayne became Stephen Hawking in last year’s “The Theory of Everything,” taking home the Oscar for best actor in a leading role, it was clear the actor’s career was just beginning. What we might not have realized, however, was how soon to expect another gut-wrenching performance from the British-born star. Now, the first trailer for “The Danish Girl” proves he’s a character actor with staying power. The Tim Hooper-directed film stars Redmayne as Danish artist Einar Wegener (later known as Lili Elbe), who becomes one of the first people to undergo a sex-change operation. “The fact is, I believe that I am a woman,” Einar says to his wife Greta (Alicia Vikander) in the trailer. “And I believe it, too,” she says. Based on the novel of the same name, the film hits theaters Nov. 27. Inspired by this post? Check out our film audition listings!
