TV on Tap: T.R. Knight Consults "The Good Wife," Jane Fonda Signs Up for an ABC Comedy and Mark-Paul Goselaar Moves in to "Happy Endings"

23 October 2012 3:44 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Yeah, trying to figure out how to watch all the great Tuesday night comedies is driving me to drink, too.

News

The Good Wife have an impressive (and huge) recurring cast, and it has just added T.R. Knight. Knight will play a political operative, which is just the kind of character who has room to make return appearances. Also, Michael J. Fox will return as Louis Canning.

In unsurprising news, Showtime has ordered a third season of Homeland. Then again, maybe you thought the shelf full of awards and solid ratings were a misdirect about the series' future.

Homeland wasn't the only show to get good news, Fox will bring back The X-Factor for a third season.

Has reality TV (on cable, at least) become the modern version of the circus sideshow?

Betsy Brandt will appear on an episode of Parenthood, playing the ex-wife of Ray Romano's character, who »

DVD Review: Malcolm in the Middle – The Complete First Season

Malcolm In The Middle: The Complete First Season

Stars: Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Masterson, Erik Per Sullivan, Justin Berfield | Produced by Todd Holland

If there is one safe bet for television it’s the family. If you want to create a drama build it around a family, want to have a film set in the Victorian era in a huge mansion? Set it around the family; want a cartoon to do well…yep that’s right set it around a family. Family is something that we as human beings understand we are “pack” animals, we know how the family works and we trust it. Of course that could be a double edge sword, if the writer can’t get the story believable, if the family is just too unrealistic then it will be doomed to fail. I guess this is why Malcolm in the Middle did so well, »

NBC's 'Go On' starring Matthew Perry injects its own 'new normal'

24 July 2012 4:22 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

NBC’s new comedy Go On decided to represent on society’s ”new normal,” too: One of the female characters in the Matthew Perry comedy was later changed to a lesbian.

Actress Julie White told TV reporters on Tuesday that when she first joined the single-camera comedy about a quirky support group, her character Annie was a heterosexual widow. “She was a lady whose husband died and she was suddenly left at home with teenagers and she was freaking out. Then a few weeks later, Scott Silveri called me at home, hemming and hawing and saying, ‘I thought I might ask you… »

Promising First Trailer for Matthew Perry’s new show, Go On

15 May 2012 10:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

After getting two great first clips at the weekend from Matthew Perry’s upcoming NBC comedy, Go On, along with a nice little interview with Perry himself, the network has now debuted the first trailer, and it’s pretty excellent.

Perry is his usual brilliant and talented self that we all know and love, and though his last two TV programmes since Friends have both been cancelled – Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was one of the best programmes we’ve seen in recent years, and definitely didn’t deserve to be cancelled after just one season – here’s to hoping that Go On will live up to its name and continue on for seasons to come.

NBC have already ordered a full first season for the show after its pilot filmed earlier this year, and have scheduled the season to start airing this autumn on Tuesdays at 9 in the States. »

First Two Clips and Interview for Matthew Perry’s new show, Go On

13 May 2012 1:30 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

After finishing Friends back in 2004, Matthew Perry went on to co-lead Aaron Sorkin’s brilliant follow-up to The West Wing with Studio 60 and the Sunset Strip.

When that was entirely unjustly cancelled after just one season, Perry starred in a few movies (including 17 Again alongside Zac Efron), as well as most recently co-creating and -writing Mr. Sunshine, which was alas also cancelled after just one season.

His latest show sees him return to NBC with Go On, and the network has debuted the first two clips from the show, as well as an interview with Perry himself.

Perry was of course brilliant in Friends, and I loved him in The West Wing, and though I haven’t yet seen Mr. Sunshine, I’m definitely already looking forward to this latest show.

TV News: NBC Fall Schedule Includes ‘The Voice,’ Six New Shows, ‘Community’ on Fridays

13 May 2012 11:36 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – NBC revealed their Fall schedule today and there were multiple surprises including comedies moving to Tuesday and Friday nights (we were wondering where all of the sitcoms would go) and a Fall cycle of the hit singing show “The Voice.” Other major news is that “Smash” is being held for mid-season. The network also revealed that six new shows — two dramas, four comedies — will premiere in the Fall.

The big news for comedy fans is that Thursdays have been tinkered with again as the final season of “30 Rock” will kick off the night at 7pm Cst, followed by “Up All Night,” “The Office,” and “Parks and Recreation.” In the 9pm Cst timeslot that was the kiss of death last season with “Prime Suspect,” “The Firm,” and “Awake,” the network has given up and will air the low-rated but inexpensive “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”

Laura Benanti is much more than a Broadway star. The actor, who also starred in last season’s short-lived “The Playboy Club,” will be coming to a television near you again next season. She’ll star alongside Matthew Perry (“Friends”) in “Go On,” a new sitcom NBC recently picked up for the Fall season.Benanti will play a group therapy leader in the comedy and Perry will star as a sportscaster who’s forced to go to the “Transitions” group sessions after suffering a loss. Her character has “the deep, dark secret that she doesn’t have any skills,” Benanti told Back Stage at the Opening Act gala on Monday night. “She’s like, ‘I’m gonna do a support group ‘cause I wanna help people!’ But she doesn’t have a degree and didn’t go to college. NBC Eyes August Premieres For New Comedy ‘Go On’ & Returning Drama ‘Grimm’

30 April 2012 1:18 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

NBC‘s freshman drama Grimm received a very early renewal in mid-March. And the network’s comedy pilot Go On starring Matthew Perry was given an unusually early series pickup 10 days ago. I hear both are being eyed for an early launch in August, following NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in London. NBC, which is seeking a ratings turnaround, had been contemplating an early rollout for a number of series to take advantage of the monster promotional platform the Olympics provide. To make an August launch date, Grimm and Go On are expected to start production early. I hear Grimm writers are already working, while writers on Go On, created by Scott Silveri and directed by Todd Holland, will convene as early as next week. The single-camera Go On stars Perry as an irreverent yet charming sportscaster who, trying to move on from a loss, finds solace from »
