IMAX: Tropical Rainforest

14 July 2011 3:36 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

In the 1990's, MacGillivray Freeman became the go-to producers of IMAX nature documentaries. Usually running between 30 and 45 minutes, these documentaries were perfect to be screened at museums across the country that had the money to build an IMAX theater. Their best known film was 1998's Everest, but they have 28 other films in their catalog including Tropical Rainforest which is being released this month on Blu-ray for the first time.

Tropical Rainforest is a fairly straight-forward nature documentary. There's a lot of footage of butterflies, the giant treetops, and scientists collecting samples for their research. The narration is done by Geoffrey Holder who is best known as the narrator from Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or as Punjab from 1982's Annie, and his script is mostly made up of observations of the wildlife (“Look at this beautiful butterfly.”) and thoughts on logging (“Look at that human cutting down the tree. »

16 May 2011 5:02 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

This is when it really matters — We’re so close to finding out who wins!

Donald Trump is down to the elite final four: Meatloaf, Lil’ John, Marlee Matlin and John Rich. But it didn’t last long because Trump fired two almost immediately!

Donald announced that he was going to fire two people on tonight’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice as well as bring back the last three winners of the show — Bret Michaels, Joan Rivers, and Piers Morgan.

The first segment of the show was the three previous winners interviewing the final four in order to assess their potential. Annie Wants Ryan Murphy to Direct

9 February 2011 5:30 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Glee creator Ryan Murphy is in the lead to direct Sony's musical remake Annie. While Sony has approached Ryan Murphy to direct, a formal offer hasn't been made yet, and it is still very early in the process.

We reported a few weeks ago that the Annie remake is being set up by Sony Pictures through a joint venture between Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment and rapper Jay-z. Willow Smith, the 10-year-old daughter of Will Smith, will play the orphaned title character.

The character Annie started out as a comic strip and was turned into a successful Broadway play in 1977, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show was adapted into the 1982 movie Annie, which starred Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, and Aileen Quinn as Annie.

No production schedule was given for this new Annie musical.

Annie comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Willow Smith.

Annie was released May 21st, »

Annie Remake Coming Starring Willow Smith

26 January 2011 10:12 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have formed a joint venture with Shawn "Jay-z" Carter to develop and produce major motion pictures. One of the projects being discussed is the re-imagination of the classic Broadway musical Annie as a vehicle for Willow Smith to star. The film will be developed with Sony Pictures Entertainment and produced by Overbrook Entertainment and Mr. Carter.

The partnership began over dinner with Jada, Will, James Lassiter and Jay-z, where they decided to co-invest in the now successful beauty products line Carol's Daughter. They continued this partnership as co-producers of the successful Broadway production Fela!, which earned a total of eleven Tony Award nominations in 2010.

Additionally, Willow Smith, managed by Oe Executive Miguel Melendez, signed onto Jay-z's record label, Roc Nation which produced her first single titled "Whip My Hair" has been certified Platinum. Jay-z previously sampled the »

Will Smith Circling Annie Remake

19 January 2011 5:40 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Will Smith is considering coming on board as a producer of the Annie remake. His daughter Willow Smith could potentially star in the project for Sony.

Will Smith would produce through his Overbrook Entertainment company, much like he did for his son Jaden Smith on The Karate Kid reboot.

Details are thin on the Annie production, as it doesn't seem a writer or director are attached yet. However, rapper Jay-z is in talks to produce the music. Annie's signature song, "It's the Hard Knock Life" was sampled by Jay-z in 1998 and served as the title of his album "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life."

Annie began as a comic strip in 1924, which featured the orphan Annie who was taken in by Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. The character was revitalized in 1977 with a hit Broadway musical and later in the 1982 Annie movie. It wasn't revealed if this Annie will feature a contemporary setting, »
