The Tick: First Clips For Amazon’s Superhero Series Scurry Online

19 August 2016 8:14 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With the pilot episode due to scurry onto Amazon today, August 19, Entertainment Weekly has unleashed a pair of clips for the studio’s revival of The Tick, placing Peter Serafinowicz in the oversized shoes of the loopy blue superhero.

Flanked by Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion), these snippets tee up the dynamic between The Tick and Newman’s Arthur, who is central to Amazon’s long-awaited reboot series.

That’s according to Ben Edlund, the brains behind the larger-than-life character. In helping to bring The Tick to the small-screen, Edlund was conscious of injecting a distinctly human element into the drama to counter the otherworldly elements.

He’s the main character. He’s the one who has the arc. He’s the one who gives us the shoes you wear to pass through this universe. In the previous live-action, »

New Images for Amazon's The Tick Series

2 August 2016 8:16 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

So we saw a teaser image a few weeks ago of the new Amazon series The Tick. Now we’ve got a lot of images for the upcoming series. So check out Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) as the title role. Now the suit turned me off at first but so long as the character is upheld I’m willing to give it a chance. But also we get Griffin Newman as Arthur, Jackie Earl Haley as The Terror, Brendan Hines as Superion, Whoopi Goldberg as, well apparently Whoopi. Jackie Earl Haley is going to be a huge draw as one of my favorite villains from the series. Creator Ben Edlund is going to be a writer for the series which instills a lot of confidence from me. Look for this new series to debut August 19th on Amazon.

2 August 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We got our first look at Amazon Studios’ live-action reboot of The Tick last month [see here], and now we’ve got sixteen new images from the pilot, which sees Peter Searfinowicz taking over from Patrick Warburton as Ben Edlund’s big blue superhero; check them out here…

“This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us,” states creator Ben Edlund. “The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of The Tick and Arthur’s story in live-action, and I think we’re on to something! Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami — and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism. Is it a radically new hybrid »
