- Won Broadway's 1961 Tony Award as translator of the Best Play winner, "Becket," written by Jean Anouilh. She had also previously been nominated for translating another Anouilh play as part of a Best Play nomination, 1957's "The Waltz of the Toreadors."
- She was educated at Hendon County School and Somerville College, Oxford, where she took the war-shortened course in French and German, graduating in 1943.
- She had three children with her second husband, Andrew: son, Marcus; and daughters, Emma and Alexandra.
- Donald Pleasence named his daughter Lucy after her.
