TV Review: ‘Texas Rising’

TV Review: ‘Texas Rising’
Watching the first six hours of “Texas Rising,” a wonderfully cast and otherwise completely wooden miniseries, one has to wonder what inspired the History channel to expand the production from six hours to 10. Chronicling a chapter in the Lone Star state’s bloody ascent to U.S. statehood that begins in the ashes of the Alamo, the Roland Joffe-directed project juggles too many indifferently written, tough-talkin’ characters, as if “Lonesome Dove” had experienced a sharp blow to the head. Fans of Westerns will no doubt be eager to immerse themselves in this once-abundant, now-underutilized genre, but for those who tend to be discriminating about their TV watching, don’t mess with “Texas.”

Granted, History has enjoyed considerable success with oaters in this particular window — witness the breakout ratings for “Hatfields & McCoys” in 2012 — and one suspects “Texas Rising” could capitalize on a similar dynamic, albeit in a less-ostentatious way. But even with its flaws,

This 'Jem and the Holograms' Thing Confuses Me

So, Universal has released the above first look picture from their upcoming Jem and the Holograms movie and I wonder, without any other information how many people today even know or care about what this isc I know because my sister loved the cartoon when she was growing up, back in the mid-'80s, but seeing how it ended its run in 1989 and hasn't had any sort of resurrection, at least not that I know of, who exactly is the audience for this moviec Perhaps the cast gives us some idea as Aubrey Peeples stars as Jem along with Disney Channel stars Stefanie Scott ("A.N.T. Farm"), Aurora Perrineau ("Pretty Little Liars"), Hayley Kiyoko ("Lemonade Mouth") making up the rest of Jem's girl band, that being Kimber, Shana and Aja respectively. Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door, Step Up: All In) will play the Holograms' road manager Rio and both

Mr. Peabody & Sherman: Joel Courtney & Kat McNamara Movie Star Movie Crix Movie Review

  • kidspickflicks
Mr. Peabody & Sherman has flown through time: it was a cartoon back when your grandparents were kids and now it's landed in 2014 so you can enjoy them, too. But, does the concept still work? Check out KidsPickFlicks' Movie Star Movie Crix Joel Courtney (Super 8) and Katherine McNamara (Contest) have to say:

"Hop inside the Wabac and fasten your seatbelt for a very endearing retelling of a beloved classic cartoon. The film brings back the charming Mr. Peabody, a genius dog who invents time travel to teach his adoptive son, Sherman, about the past. Trying to impress a new friend, Sherman goes back in time for some fun, but makes too much of a mark on history, forcing Mr. Peabody to fix it before the rip in time is irreparable. The movie is quite fast paced with constant jokes for adults and kids alike. With an all-star cast featuring Ty Burrell,
