WWE Dumps Brooklyn Brawler After 30 Years

11 May 2016 7:25 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Steve Lombardi, the Brooklyn Brawler, has been let go by the WWE after more than 30 years with the company. The popular ’80s and ’90s jobber didn’t really wrestle anymore, but instead oversaw and produced promos for other talent. In-ring, while mostly known for his role as the Brawler, Lombardi also performed as one of several Doink The Clowns, as Kamala’s handler Kim Chee, and as both Mvp and Abe “Knuckleball” Schwartz. After serving many years as a perennial loser, helping to put other talent “over,” Lombardi was given a surprise New York City title shot against Shawn Michaels. »

The wrestling world lost one of its legendary performers as Chyna (Joanie Laurer) was found dead at her Los Angeles apartment on Wednesday, April 20. She was 46 years old. “It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her,” said her website TheRealChyna.com. CNN is reporting that the wrestler/body builder was found unresponsive after a friend asked police to check on her. While foul play is not suspected, the cause of death is under investigation. Laurer was one of WWE’s leading attractions in the late 1990s while part of D-Generation X, grappling alongside Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Did WrestleMania 32 Prove WWE Is Out Of Touch With The Fans?

4 April 2016 12:48 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

I cannot even begin to comprehend what Vince McMahon was thinking when he laid out WrestleMania 32. If what occurred in Dallas is not proof positive that he is out of touch with what his core fan base wants, then nothing is. He is the captain of the sinking Titanic, refusing to believe that his ship even hit an iceberg, let alone is being being sank by it.

I thought the wrestling throughout the night was solid at worst and pretty good at best, without anything blowing me away. Not the most glowing praise, but given the hotchpotch mess I was expecting going in, it actually delivered slightly beyond my expectations.

The issue – as always – was not with the in-ring action, but with the way it was booked. WWE got it wrong not just in all of the big matches, but in every single contest.

WWE WrestleMania 32 Preview – Roman Reigns vs. Triple H, Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell, Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar and more

2 April 2016 2:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s the biggest WrestleMania of all-time with one of the most depleted rosters in recent memory. Injuries to top talent has left WWE in a quandary, but they’ve pushed forward with their plans questionable booking and all – it’s WrestleMania 32…

Well, it’s that special time of year. A time when wrestling fans – both current and lapsed – come together and celebrate this bizarre past time we call Professional Wrestling Sports Entertainment. Some might say that the Nxt Takeover: Dallas card is more impressive (and they’re right), but there’s something special about WrestleMania that you just can’t deny. I saw a small photo of the stage being built yesterday and my excitement grew – just a small photo! The card is problematic, and the injuries to top talent like John Cena, Seth Rollins, Neville and Cesaro along with the retirements of Daniel Bryan and Sting mean that the roster is very, »

7 WrestleMania Matches That Weren’t All Bad

1 April 2016 1:28 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Since its debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985, WWE’s annual WrestleMania extravaganza has brought us some of the greatest pro wrestling matches ever contested.

Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat (1987), Savage vs. The Ultimate Warrior (1991), Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (1994), Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (1997), Austin vs. The Rock (2001), Michaels vs. Kurt Angle (2005), Edge vs. The Undertaker (2008), Michaels vs. Undertaker (2009 and 2010) and others held at the show of shows are widely regarded as classics.

Along this epic journey, through 31 events on which there have collectively been more than 320 matches, Vince McMahon’s organisation has subjected us to oodles of painfully average and dismal confrontations, which are not remembered fondly — or even remembered at all. Of course it has. And then there are those matches which fall into another category: bouts dismissed by pundits and wrestling devotees as absurd, tedious or dreadful which, upon further evaluation, »

Triple H Vs Roman Reigns Is No Dq At WrestleMania 32?

1 April 2016 3:25 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

twitter

WWE are now promoting Triple H versus Roman Reigns as a No Disqualification match at WrestleMania 32.

Fans who arrived in Dallas this week have been posting photos on social media of WWE’s merchandise and posters listing the stipulation. WWE are yet to officially confirm the match status, so it is either a late change, or the merchandise / advertising have got it wrong.

Grahame’s Take:

It makes sense to make the bout a No Dq, given how violent the exchanges have been on Raw in the past few weeks. Triple H will be mindful of what happened with Randy Orton at Mania 25, when they had an extreme build, only to splutter along in a conventional match at the big event.

The change could be confirmed imminently, or maybe they’ll announce it on the night of the show as a final bit of drama. It certainly opens up exciting possibilities, »

9 Best Ladder Matches In Wrestlemania History

31 March 2016 3:05 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

This week on Monday Night Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced that Kevin Owens would defend the Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Stardust, Sin Cara, and Zack Ryder in a ladder match. This would mark the 11th time in WrestleMania history that a ladder match will take place. The previous ten ladder matches, ranging all the way back to WrestleMania X, have provided some of the most memorable moments in the history of the ‘Granddaddy of Them All’.

Whether they be for the Intercontinental Championship, the Tag Team Championship, or the Money in the Bank briefcase, the ladder match has always stole the show at WrestleMania. The high spots have always sent the crowd into a frenzy, and set the tone for the rest of the night. In addition, these matches have made the careers of future hall of famers like Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Edge, and others. »

Kurt Angle’s WrestleMania Matches – From Worst To Best

29 March 2016 5:06 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

The only Olympic gold medallist in professional wrestling, Kurt Angle would have been a grappling legend even if he had never stepped foot inside the squared circle. But step inside it he did, and after making his in-ring WWF debut in 1999 he took to the sport like the proverbial duck to water. Within a year he was winning World titles, breaking ankles and leaving behind a Hall of Fame calibre legacy.

He would only get better and better as the years went by.

Not unlike Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle’s exploits at the Show of Shows have been impressive to say the least. It is telling that whereas guys like John Cena and Randy Orton have faced a wide variety of opponents, Angle and Michaels seemed to face only ‘dream match’ type opponents, wrestlers who could work at something approaching a similar level.

This is truer for Angle than any other, »

20 Most Popular Shows On WWE Network

26 March 2016 12:28 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WWE has released the information on the most popular shows currently airing on the WWE Network. With a subscriber number hovering at around 1.2 million, the network has introduced an impressive amount of original programming in its two-plus years of existence, although many feel that the company could be utilizing the service in a much more effective way.

The list of shows is interesting in the sense that it shows the enormous popularity of a new original series, confirms that Nxt is a strong selling point for subscribers and proves that the big events continue to amass interest among viewers. It also reaffirms WWE’s claims that the archive footage, while a huge attraction for hardcore fans, is among the least-viewed content available on the streaming service. It also highlights the effectiveness of the live stream for opening shows up to an audience.

10 Biggest Babyface Wins At WrestleMania

25 March 2016 11:15 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

The art of creating a true babyface hero is something that has been lost to the sands of time in professional wrestling. Now more than ever, those in charge of the biggest companies are struggling to get fans on board with their hand-picked good guys.

The most recent example being Roman Reigns, a man WWE are badly failing to present properly as a top babyface heading into a main event match at WrestleMania 32.

Part of the problem lies with the heels on the other side of the presentation. Those who are (supposed to be) bad should make it more simple for the babyface to elicit that killer response to go along with their victory. Unfortunately, that doesn’t look like happening at ‘Mania this year, but history has shown itself to be different.

Over the years, WWE have been able to present stunning babyface victories on their grandest stage. »
