This Week in WWE: Sheamus Shines & Kane Recovers To Wrestle After 26 Chair Shots

5 hours ago | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Sheamus continues to shine as a worker, Tyson Kidd and Antonio Cesaro steal the show on Superstars and Kane is still able to wrestle after receiving twenty six chair shots prior to a match-up. Here is a look at the best and some of the worse stuff from the past week in the WWE.

Wrestler of the week:  Sheamus

The Irishman coming to the aid of John Cena at the start of Raw brought some much needed energy to a dire segment involving John Laurinaitis, Eve and the Big Show and helped to wash away the taste of yet another horrendous verbal performance from Cena. Later in the night, when partnering with the poster boy, the world heavyweight champion had some great powerhouse exchanges with Tensai, some brilliantly heroic brawling on the outside with the lumberjacks and solid back and forths with both Ziggler and Swagger who he also had »

WWE Suspends Chris Jericho For 30 Days

26 May 2012 3:03 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

On Friday evening, WWE.com announced that Chris Jericho had been suspended for 30 days.

As we reported yesterday, WWE had suspended Jericho “indefinitely” for “desecrating” the Brazil national flag during the company’s first ever live event in the country. Jericho kicked the flag that had been thrown into the ring by a fan during an attempt to draw heat from the crowd but as desecrating the national flag is an offence in Brazil, he was spoken to by police and was nearly arrested before he apologised to the live crowd.

WWE.com updated their report on Jericho with the following statement;

“WWE Superstar Chris Jericho has been suspended for 30 days due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE live event in São Paulo on May 24.”

Jericho has been pulled from all live event appearances and replaced by Daniel Bryan for the main event WWE Title matches against Cm Punk. »

Why WWE Should Bring Back European Title

22 May 2012 11:19 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE retired The European Title in 2002 when Rob Vam Dam defeated Jeff Hardy in a ladder match to unify it with the Intercontinental title.

During the belt’s lifetime, which began in 1997, many questioned its relevance. If it was there to promote European talent, then it failed

as only 2 of the 28 champions were actually European. The late British Bulldog was the inaugural champion, while William Regal won the belt a record four times. In fairness to the WWE, there wasn’t a great deal of continental talent on the roster.

Nonetheless, if the WWE was trying to give European fans a greater sense of importance, then they failed in that too. A belt that was born in Berlin died in Michigan – while only three of the 36 title changes having happened on European soil.

However if its purpose was to help superstars launch their careers, then this was something it achieved. »

WWE Over The Limit PPV – What Can We Expect?

20 May 2012 7:53 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Over The Limit

Pnc Arena in Raleigh, Nc

Don’t be fooled by WWE Over The Limit’s lacklustre buildup, where the PPV itself has been derived of any real strong individual story lines, the matches themselves hold they’re own strengths and intrigue. The WWE title bout itself is said to be an Internet fanboys dream. A World Heavyweight title contest pitting 4 men who have all had their own brush with the Gold against each other. John Laurinitis set to get his comupence from John Cena, while the rest of card is a general affair.

Pre Show – Zack Ryder vs Kane

This will mark the third consecutive show that WWE have aired a teaser prior to their PPV, giving fans a small taster of what to expect and WWE’s last ditch attempt to garner those additional PPV buys.

Over the last year Zack Ryder’s stock has plummeted. »

WWE Raw Review 14/5/12 – John Laurinaitis Fires Big Show

16 May 2012 11:36 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News:  John Laurinaitis fired Big Show but was informed by John Cena that he too would be fired unless he emerged victorious in their match at Over the Limit. Meanwhile Paul Heyman made another appearance and threatened Triple H with a lawsuit after Hunter made physical contact with him and Chris Jericho inflamed further animosity between Sheamus and Randy Orton in the build to their fatal four way world heavyweight championship match.

In a Nutshell: Phoney lawsuits, false firings and comedy villains or how the WWE stopped caring and learnt that they could simply rely on Wrestlemania.

Triple H and John Laurinaitis bumped into one another backstage at the start of the show. Laurinaitis explained that he had no idea Brock Lesnar was going to attack him like he did and then amusingly disguised an insult with false sympathy by saying how painful it was to watch Lesnar »

Last night’s WWE Raw SuperShow results from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

Triple H is walking backstage with his arm in a brace and he walks into John Laurinaitis. The Raw General Manager tells him that he didn’t know Lesnar was going to attack him a fortnight ago and says that it was painful to watch Lesnar beat Hhh up, humiliate him and break his arm. Laurinaitis says Triple H has his support and sympathy. Triple H just stares down at Laurinaitis and says he is about to tell the whole world how he feels and wishes Johnny Ace luck in his match with John Cena on Sunday.

Hhh comes to the ring and says he is not concerned over his physical injuries sustained in Lesnar’s attack but he is offended by Lesnar’s remarks about bringing back legitimacy to the company. Triple H says the »

WWE Raw Review 7/5/12 – Brock Lesnar Quits & Paul Heyman Returns

9 May 2012 12:34 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: Paul Heyman returned as Brock Lesnar’s legal representative and announced that Lesnar had quit the company. Daniel Bryan tortured Cm Punk in the Yes Lock following a handicap victory over his rival with the assistance of Lord Tensai and the aftermath of a tag match featuring Sheamus/Orton vs Del Rio/Jericho led to John Laurinaitis booking a fatal four way title clash between the competitors at the Over the Limit PPV.

In a Nutshell: Legitimacy has come to a grinding halt with John Laurinatis now the main focus of  programming.

John Laurinaitis opened the show by  claiming that he was an authority figure who refused to be disrespected by John Cena which served as the explanation for why he had lost his temper the previous week. He then said that he would finish what Brock had started at WWE Over the Limit in a match »

A contract signing for Extreme Rules pay-per-view opens the show with Teddy Long already in the ring. Teddy introduces John Cena who comes out. “The Hunger Games” stays strong and tops $350m Weekend Box Office

22 April 2012 12:12 PM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

HollywoodNews.com: It was an ‘everybody wins’ weekend at the box office as all three openers outperformed even the most optimistic expectations. The number one film of the weekend was not The Hunger Games but rather Think Like A Man. The all-star romantic comedy based off of Steve Harvey’s best-selling relationship self-help book grossed a somewhat surprising $33 million on just over 2000 screens. The Screen Gems film was notable in that the small studio made a real effort to market the African-American-centric rom-com both to black males and white audiences (Vulture has a detailed article about the marketing campaign). Racial demographics aren’t available yet, but the film played 63% female and 62% over 30. For what it’s worth, it earned an A from Cinemascore, including an A+ from audiences under 25. Even more impressive is that the film achieved a near-3x, including a token increase on Saturday (from $12 million to $13 million »

WWE Raw Review 16/4/12 – Lord Tensai vs John Cena in the UK

17 April 2012 10:15 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: Cm Punk defended his title against Mark Henry in a No Dq, No Count-outs match and learnt that at Extreme Rules he will face off against Chris Jericho in a Chicago Street Fight. Meanwhile Lord Tensai defeated John Cena in an Extreme Rules match thanks to the distractions from David Otunga and an impressive Brock Lesnar video package reminded everyone of the further trials awaiting Cena in two weeks time.

In a Nutshell: The WWE seem torn between remaining PG and trying to infiltrate attitude thus making for an uneven product.

Live from the O2 Arena, London, England

1.) Cm Punk defeated Mark Henry via pinfall to defend his WWE title in a No Dq, No Countouts match

This was Henry’s brute force colliding with Punk’s athletic cunning and it made for a gripping contest assisted by the great atmosphere provided by the crowd. Henry kicked »

WWE Tag Teams: The Good, The Bad & The Underrated

17 April 2012 3:00 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Impact wrestling is currently advertising the return of its most exciting tag team the Motorcity Machine Guns.  But who are they actually going to wrestle when they return?  Team 3D are long gone.  Beer Money are feuding with each other.  Morgan and Crimson have gone kaput.  Ok, there’s the obvious choice of tag team champions Samoa Joe and Magnus but should they really be entered into a top feud right off the bat? This only goes to highlight the distinct lack of depth in tag team wrestling as a whole.  Tna once had an amazing tag division that helped set it apart from the new champs every week approach of the WWE, but these days they too have seemingly given up the ghost.

It hasn’t always been like this though.  Tag teams were once held with great esteem in the business we love, and the tag titles were »

Who Should The Undertaker Face At WWE WrestleMania 29?

11 April 2012 8:35 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Despite only wrestling one night annually, The Undertaker once again stole the show at this year’s WrestleMania 28, putting on an epic battle for the ages against Triple H in the “End of an Era” Hell in a Cell match.

Taker, who is now 47 years old and has wrestled for over two decades with the WWE, looked in fantastic shape and all the pre-match talk over how badly his body had been beaten up and how he was too hurt to perform at his best, immediately was forgotten about when the bell first rang.

Reviews of The Undertaker vs. Triple H’s match have been hugely positive, some saying the match of the year was undeniably decided at the Sun Life Stadium. And encouragingly, the news is talk of any retirement for The Undertaker soon is wide off the mark;

Just making the card of wrestlemania is enough to fulfil the dreams of some of the members of the wwe roster but then there are others who aim a little higher to pursue a coveted wrestlemania moment and to steal the show with their match on the grandest stage of them all. It is the grandstand wrestling event where the likes of  Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock watched childhood heroes such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage engage in combat and where today’s main eventers such as Cm Punk and The Miz were captivated in turn by the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.

With so much desire in the air it is perhaps not surprising to discover that Wrestlemania has been responsible for numerous great matches, many of which had to be sacrificed for this elite list but what follows is simply my »

WWE Raw Review – 19/03/2012

The Big News:  Triple H tried to intimidate Undertaker but it was the Deadman who dealt the true psychological blow to his upcoming opponent by reminding Hunter that he still believed that he was inferior to Shawn Michaels. Meanwhile Rock and Cena both showed their strength in taking down Mark Henry and Chris Jericho continued to air dirty laundry regarding Punk’s loved ones.

In a Nutshell:  More solid progression for the matches that matter at this year’s Wrestlemania.

Cm Punk came out to start the show. Footage was replayed from Jericho’s “Cm Drunk” promo the previous week before Punk informed everyone that Jericho wasn’t in the arena tonight which  proved just what kind of man he is. Eric Larnick: 'WWE Raw' Recap: Musical Showdown With The Rock

14 March 2012 8:01 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

The big showdown from the Mar. 12 Raw, live in Cleveland, Ohio is a musical battle between John Cena and the Rock.

We're two weeks away from "WrestleMania 28" on Sun., April 1. Live from the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, headliners Cena -- the face of World Wrestling Entertainment -- will be squaring off against wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at the Super Bowl of wrestling.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, onto this week's showdown:

Opening Segment: John Cena's Battle Rap

Watch On WWE Fan Nation

Cena comes out in full "Doctor of Thuganomics" gear, complete with Cavaliers jersey. Despite the local sports team pandering and wrestling fans' love of nostalgia, Cena is met with a divisive crowd. He lays down some pretty vulgar rhymes, including wanting to give Rock a Cleveland steamer. Cleveland, uh, appreciates(?) the shout-out.
