We told you a while back that The Scream Factory would be releasing both Scanners II: The New Order and Scanners III: The Takeover on Blu-ray and DVD this fall, and now we have some artwork to dig on!
The 1991 direct-to-video sequel Scanners II: The New Order starred David Hewlett of future “Stargate” TV fame and Deborah Raffin (Death Wish 3) in a tale about a mild-mannered scanner mixed up in a government conspiracy involving evil Scanners plotting a coup. Its lesser 1992 follow-up Scanners III: The Takeover starred no one in particular and dealt with a sibling rivalry between good and evil scanners.
Hopefully one day we'll see the original flick get the Blu-ray treatment it richly deserves. Fingers crossed!

Scanners: The Complete Collection DVD Box Set
Scanners, 1981.
Directed by David Cronenberg.
Starring Stephen Lack, Jennifer O'Neill, Patrick McGoohan, Lawrence Dane and Charles Shamata.
Scanners, for those who have not seen it - which was me - is a horror film which plays like a thriller, making for an interesting angle. The film wasn't for me I must admit, but that doesn't mean my view of it is a negative one.
Watching with fresh eyes over 30 years after it was released, the film looked old. Very old. The plot centers around a revolution taking place: 'Scanners' - human beings with a mutation who have telepathic abilities - are being lead by a man named Revek, played by Michael Ironside, and fighting back against those who wish to use them for their own means. As I mentioned, Scanners has elements of a thriller and so the plot moves »

Director: Christian Duguay
Starring: David Hewlett, Deborah Raffin, Yvan Ponton, Isabelle Mejias, Tom Butler, Raoul Trujillo, Vlasta Vrana,
Running Time: 104 Minutes
Certificate: 18
In Scanners II: The New Order we join the world established in David Cronenberg’s original, a few years down the line which hasn’t changed much at all. We begin our journey with a jump into a very 1990s arcade setting, where unbalanced Scanner Drak (Trujillo) uses his telekinetic skills to control a video game. The bright lights and techno sounds that fill the arcade are a perfect setting to demonstrate to the audience just how hectic and confusing the mind of a Scanner must be.
Drak is soon taken to a facility lead by John Forrester (Ponton), a cop with huge ambitions. Drak may be willing to execute some of Forrester’s nastier wishes, but Forrester also needs somebody he can rely on. Enter David Kellum »

After Haunter’s screening at SXSW, it’s being reported that IFC has acquired Us distribution rights for the movie. Details on the deal did not include information on the release strategy, but we should see it appear first on VOD, followed by a limited theatrical run, and the Blu-ray and/or DVD.

Only Lisa has “woken up” and realizes what is going on. She starts to feel as if she is being haunted, but the “ghost” turns out to be Olivia, a very much alive girl who lives in the house in the present day with her own family. Less than a week ago we brought you the complete list of Narrative Features that will be spotlighted at this year's 2013 SXSW Film Festival taking place in Austin, TX from March 8-16. Today, SXSW made the additional announcement that many, including myself, have been waiting for; The Midnighters.
One of my favorite parts of the SXSW Film Festival is the Midnight Movies. The SXSW compiles the latest in Horror, Cult, and the absolutely insane and shows a different one each night at the South Lamar Drafthouse. Getting to watch these types of films late at night surrounded by fellow genre fans in one of the finest theatrical settings the Earth has ever known is literally every bit as awesome as it sounds.
Of the 9 announced Midnight feature films, the one I am most excited about is Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem. SXSW will be the movie's Us premiere, a »

The feature film slate for Austin's South by Southwest festival (SXSW) was revealed last week, but as most genre fans know, the real cinematic treasures are lurking in the festival's midnight lineup. As SXSW Programmer Jarod Neece put it: "This year we scoured the globe and brought back a batch that we knew would truly satisfy the gore hounds of SXSW. Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mind f--ks, we hope there's a little something for everyone."
Browsing the titles, it's hard to tear our eyes away from a film called "Big Ass Spider" (directed by Mike Mendez of "The Gravedancers"), but the addition of Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem," sequel "V/H/S/2," a movie from "Splice"'s Vincenzo Natali ("Haunter"), and vampire tale "Kiss of the Damned" from Xan Cassavetes certainly helps.
Earlier this week, a full trailer was released for Zombie's witchy opus, »
