David Hewlett was born on April 18, 1968 in Redhill, Surrey, England as David Ian Hewlett. He is an actor and writer, known for Cube (1997), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and The Shape of Water (2017). He has been married to Jane Loughman since June 21, 2008. They have one child. He was previously married to Soo Garay.

Trivia (11)

Went to high school with director Vincenzo Natali and has appeared in five of his films. Had worked with Andrew Miller and suggested him to Natali for Cube (1997).
Originally appeared as "Dr. Rodney McKay", as a one-time guest star in the Stargate SG-1 (1997) episode, Stargate SG-1: 48 Hours (2001). He was then invited back for the Season Six premiere, episodes Stargate SG-1: Redemption: Part 1 (2002) & Stargate SG-1: Redemption: Part 2 (2002), the following season. When the shows creators were casting for the spin-off series, Stargate: Atlantis (2004), he was originally called in to read for a different role. However, he returned to the "Stargate franchise" as McKay, only this time, he was a series lead in the smash hit, Stargate: Atlantis (2004).
Older brother of Kate Hewlett.
He is a big fan of Doctor Who (1963). His favourite Doctor was Tom Baker.
Used to run an Internet media company, Darkyl, with his sister in Toronto.
With his girlfriend Jane Loughman he adopted a dog from a local animal shelter which was scheduled for being euthanized. The Rottweiler-Terrier mix is now called Mars, and is one of the stars of David and Jane's new comedy feature film called A Dog's Breakfast (2007).
