Member of the influential folk music quartet "The Weavers" from 1948 to 1964 along with Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman as well as Seeger's replacements Erik Darling, Frank Hamilton or Bernie Krause. The group occasionally reformed for concerts until Hays's death in 1981.
