Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s spectral thriller, Haunted, has been abruptly shelved by DreamWorks weeks before the start of production.
28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s ghost movie Haunted has just been given an exorcism by the very studio that greenlit the film earlier this year. While the production was mere weeks away from rolling cameras, it appears that a major disagreement over the direction of the script has suddenly derailed the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks has shut down the Haunted production after an apparent total rewrite of the script left the studio “deeply displeased.” DreamWorks initially greenlit the screenplay, an entry into the ghost genre said to be inspired by Henry James’s 1898 bellwether ghost story Turn Of The Screw, as written by twins Carey and Chad Hayes (The Conjuring). However, director Fresnadillo and Scott Z Burns (Side Effects, Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum »

The term “master of horror” is one that gets thrown around a little too loosely sometimes, but there are a precious few filmmakers who very much embody that prestigious label. If he didn’t achieve that status prior to 2013, James Wan sure did with the release of The Conjuring. The film, touted by many as Wan’s masterpiece, was indeed quite masterful, and with it the Aussie filmmaker brilliantly set the stage for a franchise built around the case files of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
In the wake of spinoff film Annabelle, the Warrens are back.

A few years ago, The Conjuring came more or less out of nowhere to scare the pants off of people and become a certified horror movie blockbuster. Obviously, a sequel was commissioned, and that film, The Conjuring 2, is now hitting cinemas across the world. Director James Wan, an official master of horror at this point, as well as leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, lent weight to the demonic tale the first time around and now are back. This seems set to be a big hit, and folks, I can happily report that it’s the rare horror sequel that actually is high quality. Rejoice! The film is a sequel to The Conjuring, as you might have guessed. It once again follows Ed Warren (Wilson) and his wife Lorraine (Farmiga), as they help a family deal with a haunting. This time, it’s in England, where a single mother »

This weekend, we'll get to experience another terrifying supernatural case from the files of Ed and Lorraine Warren when The Conjuring 2 hits theaters. While fans will get to watch this horror sequel later on tonight in sneak preview screenings, the film opens nationwide today in Brazil. To celebrate this release, director James Wan teamed up with a Brazilian TV show entitled Programa Silvio Santos, for what may go down as one of the scariest pranks of all time.
James Wan himself introduces this epic prank in the video which debuted on Programa Silvio Santos' YouTube, where he reveals that the Brazilian people's love of "Pegadinhas" (translated to English as "gotchas") helped inspire this prank, which uses actual scenes from the horror sequel in a terrifying real-life setting. The prank's setup is that a number of caregivers have been called in from an agency. These women are met by an »
At the end of James Wan’s The Conjuring, I had a big smile on my face at the thought of a studio building a smart and fun horror franchise using Ed and Lorraine Warren as the foundation, and tonight, after seeing The Conjuring 2, I am relieved to see that they got it absolutely right. The screenplay, credited to Carey Hayes & Chad Hayes & James Wan and David Leslie Johnson, is very smart about the way it opens with a seance in the Amityville house. Amityville is where the Warrens made their reputations as paranormal investigators, so it makes sense to eventually tell that story, but it’s also been made and re-made and told a dozen different ways. Instead of making the mistake of dedicating an entire film to it, they use it to set several story threads into motion and also to show how the Warrens were constantly »

There’s no denying that as far as modern filmmakers go, James Wan is in a class of his own. For over the last 12 years, he’s been the driving force behind numerous great horror films (I’m even a sucker for his criminally underrated Dead Silence), and he even rose to the gargantuan challenge that came with helming last year’s Furious 7. And before he dives into the world of Aquaman, Wan returns to his cinematic roots this summer with a special treat for horror fans: a thrilling sequel to The Conjuring that’s even better than its incredibly well-made predecessor and proves that character-driven genre stories are still the best way to scare the pants off audiences.

It takes pure evil to truly rattle experienced paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren. But that terrifying and unadulterated destructive malevolence is grippingly haunting the accomplished demonologists in the newly released main trailer for the anticipated horror film, ‘The Conjuring 2.’ The trailer was released by New Line Cinema, which is set to distribute the sequel in theaters nationwide on June 10. The follow-up to the hit 2013 horror film, ‘The Conjuring,’ was helmed by returning series director, James Wan. The latest trailer for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist has arrived fresh from WonderCon. Director James Wan brings this supernatural thriller to the screen with another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
The Conjuring 2 is based on one of Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren's (Vera Farmiga) most famous cases, the 1977 haunting experienced by Peggy Hodgson (Frances O'Connor) and her family (Madison Wolfe, Lauren Esposito, Patrick McAuley and Benjamin Haigh). The paranormal activity took place between the years 1977 and 1979, at the Hodgson house in Brimsdown, Enfield, England. Some have claimed the haunting was real, »
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of Intacto, 28 Weeks Later, and Intruders, has been selected to helm Haunted, a new adaptation of Henry James' The Turn of the Screw, according to Deadline. This is apparently a passion project for Steven Spielberg, and is based on a script by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring). Roy Lee, John Middleton and Scott Bernstein are on board as producers. Fresnadillo is one of Spain's most successful filmmaking exports: Intacto a cult favourite among cinemaphiles, a strange and surreal film (in Spanish and English) about luck and gambling; 28 Weeks Later was a well-made film and much better than the usual sequels to popular genre films. He has been busy of late working in television, directing the pilot for...
