30 May 2016 11:56 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Fans anticipating the next installment in the Yautja franchise now have a little less time to wait, as 20th Century Fox has bumped up the release of The Predator by nearly one month.

According to Box Office Mojo, The Predator is now set to hit theaters on February 9th, 2018, moving the film up from its previous release date of March 2nd, 2018.

Shane Black (who co-starred as the wisecracking Rick Hawkins in the original Predator) will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Fred Dekker (who helmed Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad—a film also written with Black). Plot details are unknown at this time, but the new film is expected to be more of a sequel than a reboot. Although there has been early speculation, it’s unclear at this time whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as Dutch from 1987’s Predator.

Predator 4 Begins Shooting This October

7 May 2016 3:56 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Predator 4, which some are simply calling The Predator, is going to be a massive event film unlike any seen in the franchise thus far. Shane Black promises that in a recent interview as he hits the road to promote his upcoming comedy The Nice Guys, which is in theaters later this month. The director, who is also known for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, has now confirmed that this gargantuan blockbuster he's planning will being shooting this October.

Director Shane Black was talking with Afp when he made the announcement. The movie won't be in theaters until March 2018, which gives the filmmaker ample time to make the best Predator movie to date, though many will argue that there is no topping the original Arnold Schwarzenegger classic from 1987.

The Predator reboot story is being kept tightly under wraps, though it is confirmed to be a sequel to the first movies, »

Director Shane Black Talks Time Period of The Predator

13 April 2016 12:47 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Details about the latest film in the Predator franchise are slowly coming to the surface. In a recent interview with Collider, co-writer/director Shane Black touched on the time period of the new film and how they may explore possibilities of paying tribute to the previous movies in the franchise, especially the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring original.

Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at CinemaCon, Black mentioned that it looks like The Predator will be his next film and that he wants to channel the “fresh” thrills and immersive storytelling of 1987’s Predator (in which he co-starred as the wisecracking Rick Hawkins):

“…it doesn’t have to be huge—but it just has to feel like a Predator movie you want to see in the summer and line up for it… Let’s get back to the excitement and innovation of that original movie where it felt fresh.”

Shane Black explains why he was finally willing to take over Predator

23 March 2016 2:42 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Once upon a time, Shane Black was offered the chance to polish up the script for the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic Predator in the hopes of improving upon what they already had. He declined. Then he was cast in a supporting role in the film (Rick Hawkins) with the idea being that his new investment in the success of the film might cause him to change his mind. Nope. That didn't do the trick either.... Read More »

Director Shane Black Talks The Predator

23 March 2016 12:18 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

With the May release of The Nice Guys gradually approaching, writer/director Shane Black is starting to do the press rounds again, and in a recent interview he talked about his upcoming Predator movie.

Speaking with Thrillist (via Collider), Black discussed how Fox’s willingness to really invest into The Predator as an “event status” film helped convince him to take the helm:

“They [Fox] said, “What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for.” I said, “Really, you’ll spend a bunch of money?” They go, “Yep.” I go, “Make it really scale, spectacle?” “Yep.” “Shit, that sounds interesting.”
