Comicpalooza, Texas' premier comic book and pop culture convention, is gearing up for its Memorial Day weekend run in Houston (May 25–27). And while last year was great, this year there's something very special planned.
With a lineup crammed full of stars such as Michael Biehn (The Terminator, The Victim), Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Andromeda), Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Claudia Christian (Babylon 5), George Takei (Star Trek) and Kristin Bauer (True Blood), the upcoming convention is already pretty extraordinary. But Comicpalooza founder John Simons has devised an event to make 2012's fest even more kickass...if that's even possible.
Simons had an epiphany recently. "The next best thing to being a sci-fi or action hero," Simons told me, "has to be shooting a sci-fi or action hero with a gun — or maybe being shot by one." And this simple thought led him to conceive a bit of »

Air Collision, the best action film ever directed by a woman (for The Asylum), has a great ensemble cast and comes from a really innovative company; The Asylum, like Roger Corman’s various studios, is game to give a woman a chance to direct a genre film as well as to cast all ethnicities and both sexes for all kinds of roles. In short, I love The Asylum.
Director Liz Adams had one award-winning short film under her belt (Side Effect) when she went in for an interview at The Asylum. She was originally asked to write the fast-paced script for the then-unnamed action movie, but was offered the chance to submit herself as the director as well. “I threw my hat into the ring to direct and they gave me a shot,” she says. This is not unlike the shot given to filmmakers like Katt Shea by Corman; when »

Gay TV as we know it is dead.
Just as MTV pulled the plug on music programming in the '90s, the network's younger, swishier cousin, Logo, has decided to say goodbye to its original raison d'être: gay-focused television. One reaction has been to bemoan the news and call Logo a traitor for walking out on its community. But given the current state of Logo's programming, the decision just may be a blessing in disguise for the gay rights movement.
None of Logo's upcoming series include gay characters in "lead" roles, according to a press release announcing coming programming changes, first revealed by Queerty. Instead, the network has opted to green-light only female-friendly, gayish knock-offs of the reality shows Toddlers & Tiaras and Mob Wives, with show titles like Eden Wood's World and Wiseguys. Even RuPaul's Drag U is getting a revamp to reach a more mainstream audience. In other words, »

2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!
