Mini Biography

Equally adept at computer generated music and classical orchestral elements, Paul Haslinger has established himself as a unique musical voice in the world of feature films. Classically trained in Salzburg and Vienna, he eschewed his classical roots to become a member of the pioneering electronic band, Tangerine Dream, in which he left his distinctive fingerprint on four highly successful albums and several films, including 'Miracle Mile', 'Near Dark' and 'Canyon Dreams', which earned him a Grammy nomination. Upon venturing out on his own, Haslinger had three critically acclaimed solo albums and scored two ground breaking animated science-fiction films, Planetary Traveler (1997) (V) and Infinity's Child (1999) (V), for director Jan Nickman. He honed his film scoring skills for several years as the programmer for 'Graeme Revell', providing the musical textures and atmospheres for such movies as Blow, The Negotiator (1998), _Siege, The (1998)_, Pitch Black (2000) and Tomb Raider, to name just a few.

In 2000, Paul Haslinger received his first solo credit as a film composer in the HBO movie _Cheaters (2000/I) (TV)_ for John Stockwell. Subsequently, Haslinger has worked on every Stockwell feature: Crazy/Beautiful (2001) (Disney/Touchstone), starring Kirstin Dunst, and the summer Blockbuster Blue Crush (2002) (Universal/Imagine). Haslinger has also added his distinctive musical touch to the score to Picture Claire (2001) (Alliance Atlantic) and to several cues to the Steven Spielberg thriller Minority Report (2002) (20th Century Fox) starring Tom Cruise.

Early in 2003 Haslinger was approached by Len Wiseman to score his directorial debut, _Underworld (2003/I)_ (starring Kate Beckinsale), produced by Lakeshore and Sony. The film opened number one at the US box office and provided an opportunity to produce a very dark and driving action-score, utilizing everything from industrial rhythms to processed orchestra. Paramount licensed existing music from Haslinger for their Megahit The Italian Job (2003). The score for The Girl Next Door (2004), a Romantic Comedy directed by Luke Greenfield was recently completed and will open nationwide April 2004.
