Reaper Finds a Home and a Reunion on FEARnet

10 April 2013 4:39 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

I’ve come across few people who have watched Reaper – CW’s long canceled but still much beloved comedic drama series – and didn’t like its quirky style. And much like the fans of Firefly, they lament the short lifespan the series had before it was canceled, though to be fair it lasted longer than Firefly. It’s not much, but FEARnet is looking to make Reaper fans just a tad more happy by staging a reunion with some of the cast and crew as part of their acquisition of the show’s license. It’s not a new season, but this is as good as anyone could hope for.

FEARnet made an off-network licensing deal, giving them access to all 31 episodes of Reaper’s two-season run and will, according to Deadline, air a half-hour special where the cast and crew will fondly look back on the short-lived series, including »

9 April 2013 5:13 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

One news piece that I was excited to receive, was the announcement of FEARnet‘s plans to start showing the cancelled way too soon TV show Reaper. It was a huge fan favorite, that like Fox’s Firefly or the CW’s Veronica Mars, was taken away from fans way before it should have.

Press Release:

'Reaper' Reunion Alert (Seriously!)

9 April 2013 5:40 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

A "Reaper" reunion is happening. Seriously.

According to Deadline.com, FEARnet, which will also be home to reruns of the show, will host a half-hour reunion special featuring the original cast and crew discussing the low-rated cult-hit and its continued popularity.

"Reaper" originally aired for two seasons on The CW between 2007 and 2009. The series, which starred Bret Harrison, Tyler Labine and Missy Peregrym, followed Sam (Harrison), a bounty hunter of sorts for the devil who is tasked with tracking down escaped souls and returning them to Hell.

The series was never an outright ratings champ -- at the time -- but its numbers today would be considered healthy ... even on NBC.

Click over to Deadline.com for more.

"Reaper" reruns kick off on Tuesday, June 4 at 9 p.m. Et on FEARnet.

'Reaper' reruns will air on FEARnet this summer

8 April 2013 11:30 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Reaper" will come back from the grave this summer.

Cable network FEARnet has licensed the devil-themed comedy-drama in order to air the 31 episodes produced in the show's two-season run on The CW. In addition, FEARnet will produce and air a reunion special featuring several of the actors and crew involved with the show.

As first reported by Deadline, the basis of pick-up -- FEARnet's first off-network deal -- is the rather rabid community of fans devoted to "Reaper." Those fans are still out there nearly four years after The CW canceled the show in 2009.

"Many 'Reaper' viewers feel the show left too early, so we hope that they will enjoy our plans for the series and our 'Reaper' reunion special," FEARnet VP of programming and network operations Sarah Shannon said in a statement.

Following its FEARnet debut on June 4, "Reaper" will air Tuesdays at 9pm on the channel, »

Exclusive Interview: Robert Hall talks Lightning Bug and Future Projects

22 January 2013 1:55 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

With the recent Blu-ray release of Lightning Bug from Image Entertainment, I had a chance to talk with star Ashley Laurence and director Robert Hall. You may know Robert Hall from his effects work or Laid to Rest movies, but his first directorial effort was Lightning Bug in 2004 and it’s not what most people would have expected from him. During our interview time, I talked to him about going with a drama over an effects-heavy movie, revisiting the movie after all these years, and what projects he’s planning to direct in the future.

I know that Lightning Bug is a personal story for you and based on some of your past experiences. Can you tell me a bit about your time growing up in Alabama and how the story eventually evolved into Lightning Bug?

Robert Hall: I moved there when I was nine and I felt like a fish out of water. »

Unfortunate Silliness Dims the Glow of "Lightning Bug"

22 January 2013 12:58 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Based, supposedly, in large part on the life of its writer and director Robert Hall, Lightning Bug is an odd mix of eclectic elements that comes together in a lumpy mass that’s at some moments fascinating in its small town drama and at others over the top in its acting and writing. It’s as if it can’t decide if it wants to be a down-to-Earth story about an young man attempting to break free of his dismal home life or a hokey love story with horror elements that pay too earnest an homage to stereotypical caricatures. Were it not for Bret Harrison, Laura Prepon, and Ashley Laurence at its center, Lightning Bug would have been smushed into a glowing paste beneath the weight of its unnecessarily goofier elements.

Exclusive Interview: Ashley Laurence talks Lightning Bug

15 January 2013 5:12 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Robert Hall’s Lightning Bug is now available on Blu-ray, and I had a chance to talk with Hellraiser‘s Ashley Laurence earlier today about her role in the movie. Continue reading to learn about her interest in taking on the part, her love of painting, and the issue some people have with her Geico commercial:

I just recently had a chance to watch the Blu-ray version of Lightning Bug and really enjoyed your performance in it. How did you first meet up with Robert Hall and why was Lightning Bug a movie you wanted to be involved in?

Ashley Laurence: I met Robert working on a horror film in Ireland, and we bonded creatively over some of the aspects in that film. We became friends and he told me he was writing a story that was semi-autobiographical. I was supportive of him and he wanted me to be a part of it. »
