The Rock's Rampage Is Going to Be One Big, Crazy Monster Movie

25 April 2017 12:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Are we on the verge of seeing the first truly great video game movie? Maybe not, but we may be about a year away from seeing the most watchable and entertaining video game movie ever made. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Rampage is currently filming and, though the studio hasn't officially leaked any plot details for the movie, some have made their way online, and it sounds just about as crazy and fun as you would imagine.

Before digging in, if you don't want any potential spoilers for Rampage, you may want to turn away now. Also, since this is not coming directly from the studio, it should be regarded as rumor to some degree, at least for now. That said, what Splash Report is claiming is the main plot of Rampage can't possibly be far off. Here is what they have to say about it.

Plot details for video game movie Rampage revealed

25 April 2017 7:18 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

There are currently two major video game movies in production at the moment, with Alicia Vikander taking on the iconic Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson battling giant monsters in the adaptation of classic arcade game Rampage. While we’ve heard about the impressive cast the latter has amassed – including Academy award nominee Naomie Harris – details had been kept under wraps.

But a some new details have emerged from Splash Report, who have a pretty in-depth outline of the movie.

“The first privately owned space station is destroyed by a mysterious experiment done onboard. Three canisters from the crash land on Earth. One lands in the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, the other in the plains of Wyoming and the last one in the Florida Everglades. The Griffin Technologies Group, headed by two siblings (Malin Akerman and Jake Lacy), tries to destroy any evidence »

Rampage Story Clues Point To A Straightforward Rumble Between Three Grossly Mutated Creatures

24 April 2017 2:36 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With the exception of 2015, when the only high-profile creature feature to claw its way out of Hollywood arrived in the form of Krampus, over the past few years moviegoers have been treated to a fairly diverse melange of monster movies. From the fantastical Pacific Rim to Gareth Edwards’ dark, brooding Godzilla reboot, the silver screen has played host to an array of jaw-dropping creatures, and that trend continued just recently thanks to the launch of Kong: Skull Island.

Indeed, Legendary’s MonsterVerse is currently housing another two in-development creature features in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2020’s Godzilla Vs. Kong – the event film to end all event films – but there’s another big-budget monster flick gestating in Hollywood, and its name is Rampage.

Loosely based on Midway’s iconic arcade title, New Line and Brad Peyton’s blockbuster just entered production last week ahead of its planned release in »

Exactly one week ago today, Dwayne Johnson announced that production started on his video game adaptation Rampage, which New Line has set for release on April 20, 2018. Dwayne Johnson also shared the first set photo as filming began. Today, we have yet another look from the set, with Joe Manganiello revealing part of the costume his character Burke wears, on his sixth day of production. The photo shows the character's bulletproof vest, which also includes an interesting comic book connection.

Joe Manganiello recently signed on to play the iconic villain Deathstroke in Warner Bros.' Dceu adventure The Batman, alongside Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. But the actor's new character in Rampage, named Burke, thanks to the tag shown above the vest in this Instagram photo, is more of a Marvel fan. Right in the middle of this life-saving piece of clothes is a pin featuring the unmistakable logo for the Marvel anti-hero The Punisher, »

MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations Full List: ‘Get Out’ Tops Nominees; Show Goes Gender-Blind for Acting

6 April 2017 9:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The first-ever MTV Movie & TV Awards is already setting itself apart from the other awards ceremonies with two bold moves. The first is to go gender-blind when it comes to the acting categories; men and women won’t be segregated, but rather in competition with each other. That means you’ll get some very interesting matchups like “Atlanta’s” Donald Glover taking on the Khaleesi herself, Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones.”

Combining the gendered categories has been a debate for years, especially when it comes to performance-based achievements. The Television Critics Association doesn’t make a gendered distinction, instead lauding someone by genre such as Individual Achievement in Comedy. Of the bigger awards shows, the Grammys ditched the gendered categories a few years ago, opting for unisex titles such as Best Pop Solo Performance.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan cast as a government agent in Rampage

6 April 2017 5:58 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The adaptation for the Rampage video game has just gained another actor: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who currently plays Negan on The Walking Dead, is the latest to join the film’s growing cast. This also means he’ll be reuniting with his Watchmen co-star Malin Akerman, who was cast as Rampage‘s villain a few weeks ago.

Per Deadline, Morgan will play Agent Russell, a government agent working for an organization called Oga, and will have a “serious swagger and attitude”. Akerman, meanwhile, plays the head of a tech company while Dwayne Johnson is the film’s animal-loving hero, setting out to stop a giant gorilla, werewolf and crocodile that Akerman’s character created from destroying cities.

Rampage reunites Dwayne Johnson with his Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas director Brad Peyton, and also features Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Malin Akerman (Billions), Marley Shelton (Solace »

Rampage: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins Dwayne Johnson In Ridiculous Video Game Adaptation

5 April 2017 2:41 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

While we are most definitely in the age of superhero films, there’s little denying that we’re also in a budding age of kaiju and video game films. On the kaiju side of things, Kong: Skull Island only came out a few weeks back, and it was the second film in its buildup to a Kong v Godzilla flick. Additionally, Pacific Rim: Uprising has just finished its production. On the video game side of things, despite Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed’s failing to hit the mainstream in a big way, we still have the likes of Tomb Raider and the Castlevania TV show on the horizon.

But what if we could have the best of both worlds? That’s where Rampage comes in. This was a video game back in 1980s, though most fans probably most remember it its 1997 sequel, Rampage World Tour. The game allowed you to play as a Godzilla-type kaiju, »

Newswire: Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Rampage alongside Dwayne Johnson

Most movies based on video games aren’t very good, but most movies based on video games also aren’t supported entirely by the powerful, charismatic shoulders of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Brad Peyton’s Rampage adaptation is, though, and apparently Johnson’s star power is so enormous that it’s drawing in some surprisingly talented and well-known actors who really should know better than to get involved in a movie based on an old arcade game. Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, and Malin Akerman have already quartered up, and now Deadline is reporting that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining them as well.

Morgan will be playing Agent Russell, a guy who works for a “covert government division called Oga” and has “serious swagger and attitude.” Like the game, Rampage will be about three giant monsters destroying cities across North America, but while we know a lot of famous people »

And The Next James Bond Is…

5 April 2017 12:52 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Let’s take a few minutes to reflect on what could have been.

After two years of speculation, it seems like the question of who will be the seventh actor to take on the iconic role in the long-running film series will have to go on the back burner. Last Monday, the New York Post gossip section published an article citing multiple sources that reported that current Bond actor Daniel Craig is in the final stages of negotiating a return to his most iconic role. If true, it would mark a pretty serious change of tune for Craig, who, in an oft quoted Time Out interview from October 2015, responded to the question of his returning to do another Bond movie thusly: “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All »
