'Pompeii' from the set: Kit Harington and love in a time of volcanoes

26 December 2013 7:02 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"There’s a certain kind of gravitas a film has to take on when it already primes its audience that pretty much everyone’s gonna die,” said Jeremy Bolt, producer of “Pompeii,” from the sidelines of a scene from the forthcoming Kit Harington-starring film. That sort of large-scale horror and humor is easy to imagine, when practical sets abound, some covered in ash, some in paints red like blood, others with dust and a few in gold. Harington himself – along with hundreds of extras, his love interest Emily Browning’s Cassia and other support like Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, bad guy Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris »

First Poster For Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘Pompeii’

24 December 2013 3:32 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Paul W.S. Anderson is the man responsible for guilty pleasure action flicks such as Resident Evil, Death Race and The Three Musketeers, and with those popcorn productions have come a fair amount of critics. Although his directorial efforts thus far have hardly been groundbreaking masterpieces, they have all been thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining.

The same looks to be the case for Anderson’s next film, which is of course the upcoming disaster epic Pompeii. Loosely based on the true story of the infamous volcano’s destructive eruption. At the beginning of the month a brand new trailer for the film was revealed, and now TriStar Pictures have also released the first poster for Pompeii ahead of its February debut .

It seems the only thing wrong with this film is that Anderson’s stunning wife Milla Jovovich is nowhere to be seen, which is unusual given his affinity for collaborating with »

Pompeii Set Visit: Kiefer Sutherland and Kit Harington Take Us to Mt. Vesuvius!

12 December 2013 9:39 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Picture this, leather-clad gladiators swinging mighty axes and swords, a statuesque arena with beautiful frescoes, and a quaint Mediterranean village humming with activity. Alas the magic of the movies, the scene I'm describing isn't anywhere near Italy, but the gargantuan set of Pompeii on the outskirts of Toronto.

Earlier this summer, Sony Pictures invited us on set of their latest blockbuster action film. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson of the Resident Evil franchise, Pompeii is a swords and sandals epic that takes place in the legendary city as it is about to be destroyed by the volcano, Mount Vesuvius. Most of you have probably seen the chilling teaser trailer of the bodies, in their last moments of life, being turned to ash and preserved forever in stone by the molten lava. Pompeii is a historical recreation of that disaster set against a forbidden love story.

Jared Harris Talks Playing a Hustler, His Love of Disaster Movies, Why His Characters Always Die, and More on the Set of Pompeii

10 December 2013 9:45 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Anytime you cast Jared Harris, you’ve made the right choice.  Over the past two decades, and especially the last few years with Mad MenSherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Lincoln, Harris has played every type of role and always makes it look easy.   In director Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii, Harris plays a morally ambiguous businessman that is quickly running out of rope.  He also happens to be the father of Emily Browning's character, the story's primary love interest. During a group interview on set last June, Harris talked about being a fan of disaster movies, how he was cast, his perspective on his character, filming the disaster scenes, why the characters he plays always die, what surprised him to learn about Pompeii, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for the interview. 'Pompeii' Movie: 10 Things to Know About the 3D Historical Disaster Film

9 December 2013 9:15 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

You probably already know how this story ends. At least, if you were paying attention in history class. But as with any disaster movie, especially one based on historical events like "Pompeii," knowing how things end doesn't make watching how they get there any less exciting. Especially not with Paul W.S. Anderson directing (in 3D no less).

Set in 79 A.D., "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington plays Milo, a slave-turned-gladiator who must fight to save both himself and Cassia, the woman he loves (Emily Browning), as Mount Vesuvius erupts and the city of Pompeii crumbles around them. And with a corrupt Roman Senator (Kiefer Sutherland) also vying for Cassia's affection, Milo has a lot more than just lava to contend with.

The story of Pompeii is one that Anderson's been wanting to tell for years, and one that would've been almost impossible without recent advances in computer animation -- »

5 Major Takeaways and 65 Things to Know About Director Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii From Our Set Visit

9 December 2013 9:00 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When Paul W.S. Anderson's disaster pic Pompeii was filming in Toronto earlier this year, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters.  Besides watching Kit Harington and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje fight as gladiators in a huge practical arena, we got to walk through a number of other sets, talk to most of the cast, filmmakers, and key production people.  If you're not familiar with the film, Harington stars as an enslaved Celtic gladiator named Milo who falls in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man who slaughtered his family years earlier.  The film also stars Kiefer SutherlandCarrie-Anne MossJessica Lucas, and Jared Harris.  While on set, many people mentioned that Pompeii felt like a mixture of Gladiator and Titanic.  And after learning about the plot and the love story, »
