All You Need is Kill Pushed Back

10 May 2013 12:49 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Word has come that Doug Liman's Tom Cruise flick All You Need Is Kill has hit a speedbump and will open a bit later than expected. Look for it in theatres on June 6, 2014 instead of the previously announced March 7th, 2014.

Cruise stars along with Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Franz Drameh, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The screenplay is written by Dante Harper, Christopher McQuarrie and Joby Harold.

All You Need is Kill, based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel, centers on a soldier (Cruise) in a near-future war against aliens who relives his last day over and over after being killed. Through the training and battles he experiences in these time loops, he becomes a better soldier.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)

28 January 2013 8:24 AM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Directed by: Tommy Wirkola

Written by: Tommy Wirkola, Dante Harper

Featuring: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Pihla Viitala, Derek Mears, Peter Stormare

Given the title, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters could have been a glorious slice of cheesy goodness. But director Tommy Wirkola (best known to American audiences for Dead Snow) played it straight and, despite a few moments of humor early on, delivered a lazy, cliché-ridden product with a serious tone that sucks any sense of fun out of the film.

The story opens with a brief retelling of the classic fairy tale, but with one little twist: Before pushing the witch into her oven, young Hansel and Gretel discover they are immune to spells, at least those cast at them. And if you don't think that will be important later, it's obvious you missed the Harry Potter films.

After escaping from the Gingerbread House, the two become renowned witch hunters. »

Revisionist, Violent Fairy Tale to Top North American Box Office

25 January 2013 11:47 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters box office: No. 1 on North American chart? Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as tightly clad, glamorously sexy machine-gun-toting witch hunters, is expected to open at the North American box office with a passable $7m-$8m at 3,372 theaters on Friday, including $500,000 earned at Thursday late evening / midnight screenings. If those early, rough Friday estimates are on target, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters should end up in the high teens by Sunday evening. (Photo: Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Jeremy Renner glamorously aims to kill.) Although Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters could not be considered a downright bomb, in case those early box-office estimates are indeed accurate they would hardly indicate a great opening for a movie that reportedly cost $50m, not including marketing and distribution expenses. And that has the advantage of 3D ticket surcharges at about 2,900 venues. At Box Office Mojo, for instance, »

23 January 2013 3:04 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is hitting Us theatres this weekend, giving the classic fairy tale an interesting new take, filled with R-rated action.

The film went straight to #1 at the box office out in Russia over the weekend, making its international debut. And the odds are looking pretty good for it to do the same in the States in the coming days.

Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) look awesome in the leads from what we’ve seen so far, most recently with a great new TV spot earlier in the week. And with just days before it arrives, Yahoo Movies have released a new red-band preview, somewhat unsuitable for work.

“After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell-bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, »

‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ Red Band Trailer: Yes, This Is Still a Movie

4 January 2013 6:00 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

While we may often joke about the provenance of many films that Hollywood churns out, truth be told, there are few projects that leave me scratching my head as much as Tommy Wirkola‘s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Surely, someone, somewhere, was itching for this tale of grown-up fairy tale kids turned bounty hunters, but I can’t rightly decide who the hell would conceive of such a thing. Yes, yes, of course Wirkola and co-screenwriter Dante Harper had the idea first, but the whole thing sounds like such a ludicrous pitch that it’s boggling that they weren’t laughed out of the room. It’s Hansel. And Gretel. Grown-up. As bounty hunters. And it sort of looks like 300. Sure? However the hell this thing got the screen, the film is finally being released later this month, so let’s all ponder its origins with a new red band trailer that, at »
