Teaser Premiere For Post-Apocalyptic Indie The Day

6 December 2010 8:00 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Though producers are still playing coy with story details regarding Doug Aarniokoski's The Day we do know a few things.

One, the shot in Canada feature revolves around the survivors of some sort of apocalyptic event.

Two, the film features a fantastic young cast with Dominic Monaghan (The Lord Of The Rings, Lost), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, The Ruins, X-Men), Shannyn Sossamon (One Missed Call, How To Make It In America) and Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles, Gran Torino) anchoring things.

Beyond that we know very little other than that we want to know more. And full credit to them for that because the brand new teaser - embedded below and premiering exclusively here and at Bloody Disgusting this morning - makes you feel an awful lot about the film without telling you anything at all beyond the basic scenario. Which is, in my opinion, »

Is Battle: Los Angeles The New Independence Day

22 November 2010 8:46 AM, PST | I Am Entertainment Magazine | See recent I Am Entertainment Magazine news »

Have you seen the recent trailers that are running for ‘Battle: Los Angeles’? The Columbia Pictures film is set for release on March 11, 2011 and looks to be our next box office smash.

Scribed by Chris Bertolini and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ is a story about a Marine platoon that fends off an alien invasion. While the rest of the world is also under attack, the focus is on saving Los Angeles from annihilation. Michelle Rodriguez, Aaron Eckhart, R&B singer Ne-Yo, and Cory Hardrict each appear as members of the heroic platoon.

There are a number of similarities I see already between ‘Battle’ and the 1996 Will Smith blockbuster, ‘Independence Day.’ First, there’s the plot, aliens invade Earth and the military has to figure out a way to defend against the attack. Secondly, there’s a multi-ethnic cast which will appeal to a broader audience. Next there’s the extremely high budget. »

Aaron Eckhart in Battle: Los Angeles

Photo: Columbia Pictures One of the big films previewing at this year's San Diego Comic Con was Columbia's Battle: Los Angeles, but since that time little has been featured other than the two-second scene that debuted back in July. Now, Apple has debuted the first trailer giving us a full blown look at the action.

The film is directed by Jonathan Liebesman who directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and is set to helm Wrath of the Titans (a.k.a. Clash of the Titans 2) and the cast he's culled together includes Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena, Bridget Moynahan, Ne-Yo, Taylor Handley, Joey King, Ramon Rodriguez and Cory Hardrict.

The film is yet another alien invasion movie, which probably explains why we are getting the trailer now with Skyline hitting theaters today as the studio attempts to capture the eyes of the same audience. »

A Quick Look at Doug Aarniokoski’s Apocalyptic New Movie The Day

10 November 2010 12:18 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Who doesn’t like movies about the apocalypse? I’ll tell you who — uncool people, that’s who. Everyone with good taste (or at least, a hatred of the world as we know it –either/or) loves movies about the apocalypse, and Doug Aarniokoski’s “The Day” looks like something I might like very, very much. The script is by Luke Passmore, and the plot concerns “an apocalyptic siege warfare film spanning 24 hrs during which a small group of survivors are pit against insurmountable odds.” Whatever that means. All I know is that it’s got “apocalyptic” and “siege” and “warfare” in there somewhere, and that’s good enough for me. The filmmakers have put up six groovy looking posters for the movie on the film’s Facebook page, along with the full cast, which includes Shawn Ashmore (Iceman from the “X-Men” films), Shannyn Sossamon, Dominic Monaghan, Ashley Bell, Cory Hardrict, »
