Steven R. Monroe Talks the Aftermath of I Spit on Your Grave and More!

18 March 2011 11:16 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

At a time when remakes – like them or not – are status quo for the movie industry, few films achieve a level of being anywhere near as good as their originals. This is especially true for the horror genre. After so many still-births and disappointments (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Last House on the Left, to name but a few), fans have longed for someone to take a beloved film from the past and improve it, updating it to fit a more modern sensibility. Many have tried… most fail.

Enter director Steven R. Monroe and his re-imagining of the exploitation classic I Spit On Your Grave (review here) (Blu-ray/DVD review here). Long whispered about by fans as a cornerstone of late ’70s grindhouse fare, I Spit On Your Grave is admittedly a tough row to hoe. The film tells the story of a woman living alone in a »

Exclusive: New Never-Before-Seen Blu-ray Clip: I Spit on Your Grave

4 March 2011 9:52 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Sure, it's about a month after the initial release of Steven R. Monroe's I Spit on Your Grave, but that doesn't mean all of the revenge-laden fun has to stop there! We've nailed down an exclusive never-before-seen behind-the-scenes look at one of the Blu-ray's special features that didn't make it to the disc. Dig it!

In 1978, Meir Zarchi’s I Spit on Your Grave shocked audiences all over the world. Critics reviled it, but audiences embraced its “Day of the Woman” empowerment message. Three decades later, lightning struck again with the 2010 remake, which shocked 21st century moviegoers. Now, Anchor Bay Entertainment completes the grisly circle of revenge with the February 8, 2011 release of the unrated I Spit on Your Grave – both the 1978 original classic and the state-of-the-art 2010 remake - on high-definition Blu-ray™ and DVD. This release marks the U.S. Blu-ray™ debut of the original cult classic. SRPs for the »

DVD Review: I Spit On Your Grave (2010)

13 February 2011 10:52 AM, PST | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

In the past few years there has been an influx of remakes in the horror genre. We all know that’s not a good thing but unfortunately the mainstream fans line the aisles and spend the bucks that allows this to continue to happen.  It is well documented that I have not ever been nor will I ever be a fan of these remakes. I will say now that I am man enough to admit when I’m wrong. I guess the formula needs to be correct for a successful remake. Then comes walking in I Spit on Your Grave. Read more to see what I thought of this remake of the  1978 film of the same name.

The tale of I Spit on Your Grave is one that all fathers dread when they have a daughter, as it is worse than anything  that Liam Neeson’s daughter in Taken could ever imagine. »

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray: Paranormal Activity 2, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, I Spit on Your Grave, Tamara Drewe, and More

9 February 2011 7:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray is a column that compiles all the latest info regarding new DVD and Blu-ray releases, sales, and exclusive deals from stores including Target, Best Buy and Fry’s. Paranormal Activity 2 Paranormal Activity 2 is a sequel that didn't need to exist. But since it does, I'm glad it happens to be as good a sequel as anybody could've reasonably hoped for. I recognize there are those who find it far less scary than the first film, and though I can respect the reasoning from a pacing and build-up standpoint, I can't quite fathom the logic behind it. Perhaps the problem is that I don't have any fear of ghostly supernatural forces—especially not ones inclined to spookily open doors and occasionally thump on walls. In Paranormal Activity 2, the terror becomes real, because the family is being legitimately terrorized. And by subverting expectations of »

Take Revenge at the Dark Delicacies DVD Signing for I Spit On Your Grave

If you're anything like me, the one remake you've been frothing at the mouth to see is Stephen R. Monroe's I Spit on Your Grave. None of you are, though, which is why Howling II goes overlooked and remains underrated. Jerks. Nevertheless, the 2010 remake of Meir Zarchi's rape/revenge classic is almost upon us, and Dark Delicacies is ushering it in with some real style.

In what can be chalked up as another reason for me to relocate to the West Coast, the world's coolest horror book store, Dark Delicacies, will be hosting a DVD signing for I Spit on Your Grave on February 8th, and the event promises to be one worth attending. On hand will be director Stephen R. Monroe along with the film's executive producer, and writer/director of the original, Meir Zarchi, and producer Lisa Hansen. Wamg Interview: Steven R. Monroe, director of the I Spit On Your Grave remake

24 January 2011 1:40 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

The remake of I Spit On Your Grave is an example of why I don.t get bent out of shape when one of my favorite movies is remade. Sometimes they get it right. A much-reviled cult film that revolves around an extended and graphic rape sequence seems like an odd film to revisit but writer Stuart Morse and director Steven R. Monroe have shifted the focus a bit in this new take. The original was a nihilistic` blend of gratuitous grindhouse entertainment and feminist revenge that Roger Ebert famously labeled .A vile bag of garbage that is so sick, reprehensible and contemptible that I can hardly believe it’s playing in respectable theaters.. I always felt Ebert.s hyperbole was inappropriate and hypocritical (his screenplays for Russ Meyer combined sex and violence not only for entertainment but for laughs). What riled Roger so much was the film.s centerpiece »
