I first discovered director Sean Garrity ten years ago after seeing Lucid (trailer), a dark dramedy about an insomnia-plagued psychotherapist whose life is falling apart. I was so taken by the fine balance of drama and comedy of Garrity's work and the striking look of the movie, that I became an instant fan.
Borealis stars Chernick as Jonah, a gambler who is on the verge of losing everything. His girlfriend (Emily Hampshire) is nearing the end of her rope and his daughter Aurora (Joey King) is only living at home because she doesn't have another choice.

12 Monkeys has been one of this years great surprises. It's a clever, unique take on time-travel packed with action, excellent performances and keen storytelling. Building on the bare-bones premise of the cult film, the series follows James Cole (Aaron Stanford) as he travels through time on a mission to prevent the apocalyptic pandemic set off by the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As he jumps from year to year, Cole encounters Dr. Cassandra Reilly (Amanda Schull), a virologist caught up in Cole’s Mission, and Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire) a mental patient harboring the secrets that could save the world, both of whom play a critical role in the future of the human race. I recently had the opportunity to interview the season-one showrunner Natalie Chaidez. We talked about what showrunner's job entails, successfully running the first season, and what series creators Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett get right about time travel. »

Emily Hampshire is in the unique position of being on two of the coolest shows on television right now. You’ll find her in 12 Monkeys on Syfy as Jennifer Goines, the mental institution resident and daughter of the creator of “the virus.” She’s also in the CBC show (though it airs in the U.S. if you have the right channel) Schitt’s Creek, and she plays Stevie, the motel clerk who can’t believe the screwy “rich” people who now live in her motel.
You should really check out both shows, though they could hardly be any different, and Emily has great roles in both. 12 Monkeys obviously is what it is, and she seems to almost be channeling Ally Sheedy in some very odd sense (that is probably specific to me), but to go into a show with Eugene and Dan Levy, and Catherine O’Hara, and steal the show… »

Emily Hampshire is getting into the Monkey business full-time.
Syfy’s 12 Monkeys has promoted the actress, who portrays math whiz Jennifer Goines, to a series regular for its recently announced second season.

Hampshire’s character — a parallel to the part originated by Brad Pitt in the 1995 film — currently recurs on the show. Season 2 is slated to air sometime in 2016.

Critically Acclaimed Time Travelling Thriller From Universal Cable Productions to Return For Second Season
New York - March 12, 2015 - Syfy announced today that the widely praised adventure thriller 12 »
SyFy has renewed its Terry Gilliam adaptation 12 Monkeys for a second season. Currently midway through its rookie outing, the network will further the adventures of the time-traveling Cole for another string of episodes due to bow in 2016.
Behind the scenes responsibilities will undergo a slight change before production rolls out, though. Showrunner Nathalie Chaidez is exiting to concentrate her efforts on another Syfy property called Hunters. Taking her place are Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, the co-executive producers and writers of the pilot, who will step up their duties.
Strong support from audiences has given the show an edge on ratings since it debuted. As it stands now, the series has reached 15 million viewers overall, and is increasing its viewership on a weekly basis. Its season finale will land on April 10 – the same day as Netflix drops all 13 episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil – so we will have to wait to »

TV shows that feature time travel have had mixed success in the ratings -- as have series that are based on movies. How will 12 Monkeys perform for Syfy? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned to find out.

Syfy is no stranger to taking risks, or making shows and movies with odd concepts, but basing a series on a cult-popular, 20-year-old, sci-fi film, which is itself loosely based on another film from the early ’60s, is… bold. 12 Monkeys is that bold effort, and apart from all the other problems inherent in such an beastt, there are a lot of fans you’re likely to irritate, and Syfy is already after a fair portion of the “rabid fan” demographic, just as a general rule.
In this spin on the tale, James Cole (Aaron Standford) travels back in time from a future that has been decimated by a plague. A clue from that future leads him to Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull), who he needs to lead him to Leland Goines (Zeljko Ivanek). The theory being that, given the only information we have, killing Goines will prevent the plague from happening. »

Syfy premieres its brand new series 12 Monkeys tonight, with the pilot episode airing at 9 Pm Et. Last week, the network debuted the first nine minutes of the series, and, as it turns out, that extended clip was just the first part of a five-part preview, and we have the additional four clips for you to check out right here, before the series premiere.
Inspired by the classic blockbuster, 12 Monkeys explores the provocative story of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race. The series also stars Amanda Schull as Dr. Cassandra Railly and Emily Hampshire as mental patient Jennifer Goines.

Syfy’s new time-traveling thriller 12 Monkeys will quickly differentiate itself from the 1995 film on which it is based by actually giving hope for the future. The series stars Nikita’s Aaron Stanford as time traveler James Cole, who hails from a decimated future and journeys back to present day in a bid to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will pretty much annihilate the human race in 2017. The catalyst for heading to the past comes after a team of scientists uncovers a message from virologist Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) seemingly warning them that Dr. Leland »

That’s about as far as similarities go. “The film is the inspiration for the show. The show is its own thing,” Aaron Stanford told TheWrap . “It becomes a different experience quickly.”
On the show, Cole (Stanford) — based on Willis’s character from the film — is surviving an apocalyptic world when he crosses paths with more survivors. Backed by a scientist and virologist, »

Syfy has shared the first nine minutes from the pilot of 12 Monkeys, the TV adaptation of Terry Gilliam's landmark 1995 sci-fi film. The episode will premiere in full on Friday, January 16th, at 9 p.m.
The preview begins in the year 2043, with the scraggly James Cole (Aaron Stanford) navigating a post-apocalyptic wasteland before time-traveling back to 2013. In that year, virologist Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) delivers a lecture to a group of doctors about preparing for future pandemics before she's kidnapped by Cole, who questions her about a mysterious man named »
With the pilot episode debuting in less than two weeks, Syfy has released the first 9 minutes of 12 Monkeys. The sci-fi series is based on director Terry Gilliam's movie 12 Monkeys, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of its initial release in theaters today. Aaron Stanford stars as James Cole, the role originally portrayed by Bruce Willis, a soldier sent back in time to save the future.

The trailers for Syfy’s 12 Monkeys are solid enough, but they certainly don’t prove that we need a small screen rendition of the 1995 Terry Gilliam film. However, the first nine minutes of the show just surfaced and while there are a few hiccups here and there, the material is far more captivating than I expected. Aaron Stanford leads as James Cole, a man from the post-apocalyptic future who must go back in time to stop a deadly plague and save billions of lives. Stanford turned Birkhoff into one of Nikita’s strongest characters over the course of the show’s four-season run so I’m thrilled to see him headlining 12 Monkeys, and based on his performance in these first few minutes, he really deserved the opportunity. Hit the jump to check out the first nine minutes of the 12 Monkeys TV show. The series premieres at 9pm on January 16th and also stars Amanda Schull, »
