Johnny Depp to Voice Title Character in Animated ‘Sherlock Gnomes’
Paramount Animation and MGM have set Johnny Depp to voice the title character in “Sherlock Gnomes.”

Returning stars James McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet will join Depp in the follow-up to the hit animated “Gnomeo and Juliet,” which earned nearly $200M worldwide in 2011.

From Elton John’s Rocket Pictures, the film takes place after a string of garden gnome disappearances in London, when Gnomeo and Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case. John Stevenson is directing the pic, which Paramount Animation and MGM will release on January 12, 2018.

The producing team includes John, David Furnish, Steve Hamilton-Shaw and Carolyn Soper. The film is written by Ben Zazove.

This isn’t the first time Depp and Paramount Animation have worked together; they first teamed up on the Academy Award winning pic “Rango.” Depp, who is repped by UTA, was last seen in Warner Bros.’ “Black Mass.

Man Accused In 'Twilight' Mass Murder Plot Committed In '09

Kansas City, Mo. -- A southwest Missouri man who confessed this week to plotting to shoot up a "Twilight" showing and a Walmart store was detained in 2009 after threatening a store clerk, police said Saturday.

Bolivar Police Chief Steve Hamilton said Saturday that Blaec Lammers, 20, of Bolivar, followed a female clerk around a Walmart store in 2009, threatening her. He wasn't charged, but was committed for 96 hours for a mental health examination. Lammers, whose own mother turned him in Thursday, faces three felony charges in the alleged shooting plot.

In Missouri, hospitals, law enforcement officials and private citizens can request a person be held against their will for up to 96 hours if he or she appears to be a threat to themselves or others.

"It looks like everything was done appropriately at that time," Hamilton said. "The average person will look at it and say `Why was he not charged criminally?

39th Annual Annie Award Nominee's Announced

I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

'Kung Fu Panda 2' Leads the 2011 Annie Award Nominations

I don't put much stock in the Annie Awards and neither does Disney after withdrawing from the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood back in 2010. I have personally never found them to be a good judge of quality and as such don't pay them any particular attention, though I will pass along the information as they have announced their 2011 nominees with Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda 2 leading the way with 12 nominations, followed by Puss in Boots and Rango each with nine. Of course, while Disney has withdrawn from the Annies that doesn't mean they aren't considered for the awards as Cars 2, Gnomeo and Juliet and Winnie the Pooh are among the nominees. Last year How to Train Your Dragon reigned supreme over Toy Story 3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kung Fu Panda 2 take home plenty of hardware, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which beat out

James McAvoy Favourite to Play Elton John in Biopic

  • LOVEFiLM
X-Men: First ClassJames McAvoy could be swapping Cerebro for centre stage, in the musical biopic of Sir Elton John’s life and career.

While nothing is confirmed at this stage, The Hollywood News reports that McAvoy is favourite to play the lead in the aptly titled Rocketman, penned by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall.

The musician himself and his partner David Furnish will act as producers on the project alongside Steve Hamilton, who intends to portray Elton’s life as, “an artist, musician and man.”

McAvoy – who is famous for his roles in X–Men, The Last King of Scotland and Atonement – is a surprising choice for the part, having never worked on a musical movie before.

However, if the Scot is cast in Rocketman’s titular role he will join the musical biopic hall of fame, home to the likes of Hollywood actors Joaquin Phoenix, Jamie Foxx and Marion Cotillard.

James McAvoy To Play Sir Elton John: In Rocketman.

James McAvoy To Play Sir Elton John: In Rocketman.
Actor James McAvoy who you may recognise from films such as Wanted, Atonement and The Last King Of Scotland is now a favourite to play the fabulous Sir Elton John in an upcoming biocpic.

The illustrious musician plans to portray his life in a captivating on screen adaptation, which will be named Rocketman. He will act as producer and will work with partner David Furnish but the couple aren’t going it alone though as they will be creating the film with Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall.

Additional producer Steve Hamilton intends for the film to provide a defining portrayal of Elton’s life with an aim to show all sides of him as “an artist, musician and man.”

It’ll certainly be interesting to see McAvoy’s interpretation of Elton and to see if/how he performs many of the singers hit songs that will no doubt appear in the film.

New Details on Elton John Biopic Rocketman; Film Will Include Choreographed Sequences Using John’s Music

Back in January, we reported that a biopic of Elton John was in the works. John himself is acting as an executive producer on the project, and is overseeing the development as Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) works on the screenplay. Details were scarce at the time, with John merely stating that the film will be more of a fantasy in the vein of Moulin Rouge! than your typical biopic. Well today we’ve got a few more details on the project. The film will cover John’s life from his days as a child piano prodigy to his life as a young man rebelling against his parents, parading in flamboyant costumes, and achieving fame with his collaboration with songwriter Bernie Taupin. Producer Stephen Hamilton Shaw described their approach to the project: “Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic. It will be as unique as Elton’s life, told
