Laird John Hamilton was born on March 2, 1964 in San Francisco, California, USA. He is an actor and producer, known for Waiting for Lightning (2012), Water Man (2008) and That First Glide (2011). He has been married to Gabrielle Reece since November 30, 1997. They have two children. He was previously married to Maria.

Known for surfing the monster waves, having been a pioneer of using jet skis to tow surfers into huge waves. Big wave accomplishments: the "Millennium" in Teahupoo, Tahiti in 2000 and "Jaws" in Maui in 2002
