You’ve heard the saying claiming cats have nine lives, but what about their docile companions? Introducing us to an uplifting story of canine reincarnation, the first trailer for A Dog’s Purpose has scurried online just in time for National Dog Day.

The pic, one lifted from W. Bruce Cameron’s best-seller, hails from director Lasse Hallström (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules). As the trailer above reveals, Josh Gad lends his vocal chords to the central canine, who experiences life through a variety of wildly different vignettes – and breeds – ranging from a cutesy pup to a trained German Shepherd. The story then becomes about Gad’s interaction with each new owner, a pitch that is about as crowd-pleasing as they come.

Universal has debuted a trailer for the movie called A Dog's Purpose, directed by Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallström (who also made the movie Hachi: A Dog's Tale ). Told from a dog's perspective, which is provided a voice by Josh Gad, the film does indeed attempt to show what a dog's purpose is - especially in connection with humans. The family film also stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall. There's more than one dog and they all look so friendly. Universal has released its first trailer for “A Dog’s Purpose,” with a canine asking in voiceovers such existential questions as “What is the meaning of life?” and “Why does food taste better in the trash?”

The Friday release coincided with National Dog Day. The movie has a Jan. 27, 2017, release date in the U.S. for the Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media film, starring Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton and Britt Robertson.

Based on the bestselling 2010 novel by W. Bruce Cameron, “A Dog’s Purpose” is directed by Lasse Hallström (“The 100-Foot Journey”) and centers on one devoted dog who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he loves by teaching them to laugh and love.

“If I can get you licking and loving, I have my purpose,” the dog notes at one point.

‘The Bleeder’ Clip: Watch First Footage of Elisabeth Moss and Liev Schreiber’s Dramatic Boxing Film

This festival season there are a handful of boxing films such as “Hands of Stone” and “Bleed For This” that will aim to Ko the competition. Add to that list Philippe Falardeau’s “The Bleeder,” which stars Elisabeth Moss and Liev Schreiber as the heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner.

The first footage of the sports drama, which will be screened at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, has just dropped and features a killer performance by Moss.

In the clip, the actress, who portrays Wepner’s second wife Phyllis, catches her husband chatting with another woman who doesn’t know he is a married man.

Hit Showtime drama Ray Donovan has been renewed for a fifth season by the U.S. based cable network and will have a further 12 episodes air in the summer of 2017.

Ray Donovan, which has its fourth season currently playing out on the channel and on Sky Atlantic in the UK, is a critically acclaimed drama which revolves around L.A.’s best professional fixer, played by Liev Schreiber – the man called in to make the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls’ most complicated and combustible situations go away.

The show features a superb supporting cast in Paula Malcomson, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Steven Bauer, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Lilla Dorsey, Devon Bagby, and Jon Voight.
