Lee Hall was born in 1966 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. He is a writer, known for Billy Elliot (2000), War Horse (2011) and Toast (2010).

Trivia (5)

His play, "Cooking With Elvis", performed at the Whitehall Theatre, was nominated for Best Comedy at the Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards in 2001 (2000 season).
Won Broadway's Tony Award for Best Musical "Billy Elliot" for which he wrote the Book and Lyrics. Elton John composed the music.
Won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Book for a Musical "Billy Elliot".
Wrote the introduction for "Live Theatre: six play from the north east". Other authors included Tyneside Playwright Tom Hadaway.
His play, "The Pitmen Painters" at the TimeLine Theatre Company in Chicago, Illinois was awarded the 2012 Equity Joseph Jefferson Award for Play Production (Midsize).
