‘Sunny’ Remake in the Works From RatPac Entertainment, Korea’s Cj Entertainment

27 October 2016 2:05 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Brett Ratner and James Packer’s RatPac Entertainment has teamed with South Korea’s Cj Entertainment for an English-language remake of Cj’s hit “Sunny.”

The companies have hired Heather Hach (“Freaky Friday,” “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”) to deliver a screenplay.

The original story, sees a group of middle aged women reunite their high scool classmates form 25 years earlier.

The news was previously reported by Mashable. Cj confirmed the information in an email to Variety, but said that it was too soon to consider the project as part of its upcoming sales activity at next month’s American Film Market.

Several Korean films have lent themselves to remakes in English and other languages. Cj, Korea’s dominant film company, has expanded its exhibition and distribution activities into other parts of Asia including China, Indonesia and Vietnam and has followed those moves by expansion into production, with remakes an obvious first step. »
