Although Saw 3D hinted that the franchise was far from over, Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns recently interviewed with CNBC and revealed that the Saw franchise may indeed be resurrected.

"We have a bunch of franchises, I'm sure some day you'll see Saw back in the picture." the vice chairman said, speaking on the inevitable return of Jigsaw.

Can Lionsgate survive on The Hunger Games , The Expendables and Tyler Perry movies alone? Let's face it. The studio needs Jigsaw.

Saw 3D was released October 29th, 2010 and stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Gina Holden, Betsy Russell, Tanedra Howard, Johnny Yong Bosch, Shauna MacDonald, Franky G. The film is directed by Kevin Greutert.

Saw Will Return Says Creator James Wan!

12 April 2011 11:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

James Wan and Leigh Whannell were recently at the Kapow Comic-Con event in London to promote their new movie Insidious, where they revealed that they might return to the Saw franchise. Here's what Leigh Whannell said about what it would take for them to return to Jigsaw's world.

"We would want to do something that is a bit of a different take. That's probably what it would take."

James Wan and Leigh Whannell directed and wrote the original Saw in 2004, although their involvement in the sequels was mainly limited to executive producer roles. While Saw 3D is believed to be the last installment, James Wan believes the franchise will return.

"I would say you can always count on capitalism, guys. That's all I have to say. It is finished for now, but the fact that it's such a huge, well-known franchise, means that it's going to come back at some point. »

Original creator Leigh Whannell is open to continuing the franchise down the road, once he dabbles in other genres first

We recently spoke to original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell about their new haunted house thriller Insidious, which is in theaters this Friday. Of course we had to ask them about the continuation of Saw. This past October, Lionsgate gleefully promised that Saw 3D would be the final film in this lucrative horror series. But as we suspected, that may not be true.

In fact, Leigh Whannell is very open to returning to the Saw franchise somewhere down the road, once he gets a political horror comedy made, and a children's fantasy film off the ground first.

Here is what he had to say.

I know you have been asked this question ten thousand times, but do you guys ever think you will come back to Saw? This »

Exclusive: James Wan and Leigh Whannell Talk Insidious

30 March 2011 5:24 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Creators of the original Saw, James Wan and Leigh Whannell are behind this new haunted house thriller, in cinemas this Friday

Director James Wan is most notorious for co-creating the now-legendary slasher franchise Saw with his writing partner/actor Leigh Whannell. Instead of going onto direct that first film's sequel, the Australian duo instead decided to do something very few breakout horror mavens ever attempt in their entire career. They jumped genres to co-write and direct the supernatural murder mystery Dead Silence, which was soon followed by the suspenseful revenge flick Death Sentence, starring Kevin Bacon.

This Friday, James Wan and Leigh Whannell return to their true horror roots with their first ever haunted house thriller Insidious, which is drawing swift comparisons to Poltergeist and The Exorcist. Insidious stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as a married couple who come to believe their house is haunted after their son falls into a deep coma. »
