It would seem the big screen just cannot get enough of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson these days, much to the delight of his growing army of fans. Aside from his recurring role in the Fast And Furious franchise, the current release of Hercules, and the long-running, unconfirmed rumour of his future casting as superhero Shazam, Johnson is now confirmed as returning to the Journey franchise.
The family favourite fantasy-adventure film series began in 2008 with Journey To The Center Of The Earth, starring Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. The second instalment – Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – arrived in 2012, with Dwayne Johnson replacing Brendan Fraser in the lead role, alongside the returning Josh Hutcherson. Both films were box office hits, despite the second film receiving relatively negative reviews, which makes today’s sequel confirmations more of an inevitability than a surprise.
The difference with the next two franchise entries will be the writing team. »

Starting in 2008 with "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D," the film scored a sequel in 2012 with "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" which saw Dwayne Johnson take over for Brendan Fraser as the adult male lead. Johnson is expected to return for both the new sequels.
The Hayes became known for penning numerous films for Dark Castle including "House of Wax," "The Reaping" and "Whiteout" before hitting it big with "The Conjuring". They're returning to pen that film's upcoming sequel, and also wrote Johnson's in production earthquake disaster thriller "San Andreas".

In 2008 it was Brendan Fraser leading the charge in New Line's Journey to the Center of the Earth, four years later Dwayne Johnson took over in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and while domestic returns only showed a slight uptick, internationally the sequel made $90 million more than the original. However, that didn't seem like enough for New Line to continue the franchise... until now. The Hollywood Reporter brings word The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes have been hired to write Journey 3 and 4 with Johnson expected to return for both along with Josh Hutcherson whose starred in both installments so far. There is no specific word on which direction the plot will go, but the THR article says the screenwriting brothers will take "the project in a different direction", whatever that could mean. More than two years after setting up a sequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, New Line Cinema is finally moving forward with not one but two sequels. Journey 3 and Journey 4 will be written by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring).
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island stars Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles as Hank, a Navy code breaker, and his stepson Sean. Both Journey 3 and Journey 4 may be filmed back-to-back, depending on everyone's schedules.
Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) were first hired to write the Journey 3 script back in 2012, but now the producers are going in a different direction with Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes' take. No plot details have been released at this time. Beau Flynn and Charlotte Huggins are producing, with Sam Turner serving as executive producer.
Journey to the Center of the Earth was released in 2008 and starred Brendan Fraser, but it was WWE Superstar turned Hollywood’s highest grossing actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who took over the franchise in 2012. The sequel was called Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and also starred Michael Caine.
New Line are now moving ahead with third and fourth instalments in the franchise, with The Rock attached to star in both. Chad and Carey Hayes, the brothers who wrote hit horror movie The Conjuring for the same studio, will pen the scripts for both of these new Journey movies, though there’s no word on a director.
There are also no plot details available as of right now, but the Hayes brothers replace Brian and Mark Gunn (who were hired back in 2012 to write Journey 3), so it appears as if they’ll take the franchise in a new direction.

The reboot of Timecop is moving forward after securing new writers.
It has been reported that the film will be tonally similar to Looper, with more emphasis on big-budget special effects.

Total Recall. RoboCop. Blood Sport. Godzilla. The Fantastic Four. The Pink Panther. Gremlins. For better or worse, Hollywood loves a reboot. The latest reboot to make the leap into development is Universal's Timecop. THR reports Universal has hired cousins Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, co-writers of the Dwayne Johnson action-comedy Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, to write the screenplay for a rebooted Timecop. The original 1994 movie starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and was inspired by the comic book series by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. The action flick was set in 2004, where--as the trailer below outlines--"time travel is a reality." Meanwhile, in actual reality it's 2014 and we still don't even have hoverboards, but I digress. Anyway, in Timecop time travel wasn't only possible, but also a criminal offense. It's just too tempting to go back and time and steal sweet loot (Time Bandits) or bet on sporting events you already »
Star Wars Last week, rumors began circulating that J.J. Abrams might be revisiting some of the classic environments of the original Star Wars trilogy in Star Wars: Episode VII, namely the ice planet Hoth and the desert planet Tatooine. Now, THR is adding some weight to at least half of that rumor by reporting that a "source" inside the production has revealed that Abrams is building a "re-creation of Tatooine." Abrams is a self-avowed devotee of the original movies and the entire Skywalker storyline revolves around the desert planet so this seems like one slam-dunk of a rumor.
Far less certain is the recent rumor that a virtual unknown has landed a major role in the new trilogy. Again, THR is out in front of this rumor, placing Oxford-educated actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers "in line to nab" a key role, possibly as the Jedi daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. So far, the »

Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the original Timecop, which was released in 1994, centering on a law enforcement agency that regulates time travel. The actor portrayed an officer who tangles with a corrupt politician (Ron Silver), trying to use time travel to further his career. Mia Sara, Bruce McGill and Gloria Reuben co-starred in the film.
The reboot is said to be more of a "gritty and grounded" crime tale, with the sci-fi elements pushed to the background. The project has drawn comparisons to Rian Johnson's 2012 time travel feature Looper, although this reboot will be much larger in scale. The story debuted as a three-part tale in the Dark Horse Comics anthology series, which spawned the original Timecop, a short-lived 1997 Timecop TV series, »
It was revealed last summer that Dark Horse Comics' Timecop is heading back to the big screen with Universal Pictures developing the property for a franchise reboot. Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Journey 2: The Mysterious Island scribes Brian and Mark Gunn will provide the screenplay. "What a dream: to travel through time," Dark Horse's official description of the series reads, "You can change the past, the future, your future. Then imagine Max Walker, one of the Time Enforcement Commission's toughest and most extreme cops. But as nasty as Walker's methods are, even he may not be able to stop a nefarious plot to destroy the future as we know it." Originally published as a three-part story in the "Dark Horse »
