Tabu stars in Meghna Gulzars Talwar

5 June 2014 7:25 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Tabu, a very old favorite of Gulzar and his family, is back in the family's fold. The actress who considers the poet-filmmaker her father-figure has starred in his last two directorial ventures Maachis and Hu Tu Tu. Tabu also played the lead in Gulzar Saab's daughter's directorial debut Filhaal. Now she's back in Meghna's new directorial project entitled Talwar. Tabu steps into a role originally offered to Shefali Shah. Talwar also stars Irrfan Khan and Sohum Shah, that wonderful actor from Anand Gandhi's Ship Of Theseus. Gulzar Saab's reticent daughter Meghna Gulzar began shooting for her third feature film on Tuesday morning with minimum fanfare. The project has been entitled Talwar and the film is said to be based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case. Apparently, Meghna's father has given the film its title; just as he has titled Megha's two earlier feature films Filhaal and Just Married. »

Irrfan Khan to star in Aarushi murder case film

12 May 2014 1:09 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Irrfan Khan who shot to fame after the undoubted international success of Slumdog Millionaire, is to star in Meghna Gulzar’s next film as a Police Officer.

The film will be centered around the real-life high profile case of the 2008 murder of a 13 year old girl, Aarushi Talwar and a 45 year old domestic helper who were found murdered in the Talwar’s house in Noida, India.

Meghna Gulzar is the daughter of famous lyricist Gulzar and actress Rakhee, and her last venture Just Married, failed to make a big impression on audiences, so only time will tell if this film makes the cut.

Shefali Shah will also be seen playing the role of Aarushi’s mother, Nupur Talwar and the film will be produced by Vishal Bhardwaj.

As of yet the title is unconfirmed and this film requires both tact and the right angle from which to portray the story in. »

Film Review: ‘Dedh Ishqiya’

14 January 2014 10:44 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The exhilarating “Dedh Ishqiya” is the young writer-director Abhishek Chaubey’s worthy sequel to one of the sharpest Bollywood comedies of recent years. In contrast to the usual clobbering  slapstick, Chaubey’s 2010 “Ishqiya” was more like a droll mid-period Elmore Leonard tale transplanted to India. The gloriously gifted comic actors Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi were a squabbling uncle-and-nephew team of only moderately gifted thieves, handed a sobering lesson in the realities of life and love by a seductive widow (Vidya Balan). This second installment is less astringent. In fact, it has the structure of a fairy tale, the kind in which suitors from across a kingdom vie for the hand of a princess in marriage.

The first film’s view of romance was not so much cynical as deeply wised up. All three characters had a hard time saying no, and after some turmoil they came to accept this about themselves, »
