WWE Overload: Why Adding More Championship Titles Is an Epically Bad Idea (Opinion)

21 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The WWE now has eight championship titles — and a ninth is on its way. Sometimes more isn’t always better, and nowhere on TV is that more apparent than the WWE Network, which is packed full of solid content, but has also forced the creation of far-too-many pay-per-views events — an obvious effort to justify its $9.99-per-month price. Svod aside, the company’s recent roster split has helped another network — NBCUniversal’s USA — in TV ratings, mostly just by replacing a tape-delayed TV show with another live one. Unfortunately, it’s also continuing to water down the in-ring product. Also Read: Rey Mysterio Jr. »

WWE are bringing back the Cruiserweight Division to Raw

19 July 2016 4:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

As well as the announcement of the new General Managers of Raw and Smackdown, Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon also announced that the Cruiserweight Division would be returning to the company.

However, unlike its last run in WWE, the Cruiserweight Division will be exclusive to Raw and not Smackdown.

The announcement comes off the back of the successful debut of the Cruiserweight Classic, which is currently airing exclusively on the WWE Network. The show is presented very differently to the current WWE product and is more evocative of Mma, which could be transferred over to Raw.

This also builds on the rumours that WWE have signed several of the competitors in the tournament, including Roh’s Cedric Alexander and New Japan’s Kota Ibushii.

The following is a guest post from WrestleTalk. Subscribe to their YouTube channel for new videos every day.

In today’s WrestleTalk News, Bret Hart shoots hard on Triple H (again) and the latest updates on whether Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio are returning to WWE for the brand split…

Returning WWE Stars Update

Our top story today is Bret Hart’s latest shoot comments on Triple H, but first, an update on all those ex-wwe stars who were reportedly approached for a brand split return.

Last month Forbes reported that WWE had reached out to a number of ex-wwe stars about a return to the company to fill out a roster that’s going to be thinned with the Raw and Smackdown brand split.

Kurt Angle and Goldberg were both names on that list, but they have since said there have been no such talks. Goldberg says his WWE »

‘Lucha Underground': Here’s a Sneak Preview of ‘Ultima Lucha Dos’ (Photos)

1 July 2016 10:07 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

When “Lucha Underground” debuted in the fall of 2014, it set hardcore wrestling fans afire. It became an alternative to WWE’s clean-cut fare, featuring one of the most diverse casts on TV and a surreal, dark mythos dedicated to creating story arcs that built on top of each other. To the delight of its rabid fans, it got renewed for a second season, a season that ends this month with the three-part event, “Ultima Lucha Dos” One of the marquee matches scheduled for the finale is a match between WWE alum Rey Mysterio and Prince Puma, the show’s first protagonist. »

WWE Draft Date Revealed

First, we’ve finally been given a confirmed date for the WWE Draft.

After weeks of speculation – with many saying it’ll be the 11th July Raw – it has now been confirmed that the WWE Draft will be taking place on the first live episode of Smackdown on the 19th July.

In a press release, WWE also confirmed that each brand will be competing with “television ratings, live events and pay-per-views.” This all but confirms the reports from last week that WWE are looking to put on two pay-per-view shows a month, one for each brand. »

Preview: Nxt Takeover: The End – Samoa Joe and Finn Balor battle for the Nxt Championship, American Alpha vs. The Revival, Nia Jax vs. Asuka, Andrade “Cien” Almas debuts and more

8 June 2016 9:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Nxt returns to Full Sail for the first Takeover there since last year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which saw Finn Balor and Samoa Joe win the tournament. So it’s only fitting that the final part of that feud takes place where it all began, and it’s inside a cage…

It’s hard to believe it’s been two months since Nxt Takeover: Dallas, but he we are once again getting excited for the latest Nxt Takeover. There were those who speculated that The End spelled disaster for the Nxt brand (especially with the Raw and Smackdown brand split and Nxt Takeover: Brooklyn disappearing from WWE’s website), but thankfully it’s only the end of the epic Samoa Joe/Finn Balor feud. Phew. Maybe it could mean this End?

Cody Rhodes To Drop Stardust Character After WrestleMania 32?

3 April 2016 11:28 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

It’s been nearly two years since Cody Rhodes first adopted the persona of Stardust – a bizarre, bodysuit-wearing takeoff on his older brother’s ultra-successful “Goldust” persona – and the gimmick may be drawing to a end.

According to the former WWE Tag Team Champion himself at WrestleMania Axxess, if he doesn’t win the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania, Stardust will be gone and Cody may have to return.

Since his debut on WWE TV nearly a decade ago, Cody Rhodes has gone through a plethora of different personas. First debuting as a grateful second-generation star, Rhodes soon turned his back on his family to join Randy Orton’s Legacy stable. When the group disbanded, the “Dashing” star started offering personal grooming tips, but an injury suffered at the hands of Rey Mysterio forced him to wear a facial mask a la The Phantom of the Opera.

8 Wrestlers Who Do The Same Weirdly Specific Spots Over And Over

1 April 2016 1:54 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

There are certain moves you expect a given wrestler to do in the ring most nights. If Goldberg didn’t Spear someone in his match, it was strange. If Undertaker doesn’t hit the Old School spot over the course of thirty minutes, it just doesn’t feel right.

But then there are oddly specific spots that certain wrestlers do in the ring over and over and over again that are just straight-up weird. Some of them aren’t even specific maneuvers so much as distinctive happenings that seem to occur only when that particular person is in the ring.

It can range from the very basic (why is that guy the only person who sidestep’s Goldberg’s Spear?) to the incredibly elaborate (why does that guy always take three chair shots to the head before flicking his opponent in the balls?), and once you see the pattern, »

10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2006

28 March 2016 10:54 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

It’s the moment that many WWE supserstars dream of: winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Many dream it, but very few actually get to experience it. Among those least likely to do so are 5ft 5in, 160lb mask-wearing luchadores. In all seriousness, can you picture Kalisto ever winning the Royal Rumble and lifting the company’s top prize on the grandest stage of them all?

It’s far from a likely scenario, but it’s exactly what happened to Rey Mysterio in 2006. That year should have been one of the biggest in Rey’s career. Previously viewed as little more than a cruiserweight performer who could probably wish for, at best, a United States title run, Rey was suddenly thrust into the limelight and pushed all the way to the top.

But the reality was that the dream scenario wasn’t all that it seemed, for »
