WWE Raw 09/12/16 Review – Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn appears on the Highlight Reel and more

13 September 2016 2:06 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Shaun Eddleston reviews the September 12th edition of Monday Night Raw

Following a pretty lacklustre episode last week (read my review here), and a rather impressive PPV from the Smackdown brand over weekend (read my review here), Raw needed to step up its game in a big way, especially with the next PPV on the horizon, Clash of Champions. Could it regain its footing as we saw the WWE Universal Champion face one of the most polarising figures in the current climate of WWE?

Raw General Manager Mick Foley addressed the Raw Women’s Championship situation

Mick Foley kicked off the evening’s broadcast and introduced fans to women’s champion Charlotte.

Frustrated by the loss suffered at the hands of Bayley last week, she attempted to force Dana Brooke to apologizse to her for the defeat. Sasha Banks interrupted, soon followed by the aforementioned Bayley. The segment broke down »

Goldberg returns in WWE2K17

31 May 2016 5:59 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you were watching last night’s edition of WWE Raw, you’ll have heard a familiar theme as one of the biggest stars of the late 1990s returned to television.

The first trailer for WWE2K17 aired last night, which saw that former WCW Champion Goldberg would be this year’s featured pre-order character. In previous years it has been the return of The Ultimate Warrior and the debut of Sting. Goldberg has not featured in a game since WWE2K14.

Check out the official trailer below:

Goldberg was thought to be the one star the Nitro era of WCW created, and was the only one to stay with the company to the bitter end (The Giant, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero all left by 2001). He was not part of the derided InVasion storyline due to WWF refusing to buy out his Time Warner contract, but he »

‘WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness’ Review

16 May 2016 10:32 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

I’ve often said that I find the history WWE Blu-Ray releases the best, so when one was released celebrating the Us Championship I was obviously looking forward to it. Although we often see people like John Cena dominating the belt these days it has one of the more interesting histories of any of the belts. WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness reveals just how varied this history is.

The fact that WWE now has a huge library of footage from all kinds of wrestling federations from the past allows them to pull out some real gems. These include matches that aren’t even complete, and don’t feature commentary. This is the case of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat with Andre the Giant as guest referee. Filmed in 1978 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it is a nice addition for the history loving wrestling fan, especially those who love Andre. »

Did WrestleMania 32 Prove WWE Is Out Of Touch With The Fans?

4 April 2016 12:48 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

I cannot even begin to comprehend what Vince McMahon was thinking when he laid out WrestleMania 32. If what occurred in Dallas is not proof positive that he is out of touch with what his core fan base wants, then nothing is. He is the captain of the sinking Titanic, refusing to believe that his ship even hit an iceberg, let alone is being being sank by it.

I thought the wrestling throughout the night was solid at worst and pretty good at best, without anything blowing me away. Not the most glowing praise, but given the hotchpotch mess I was expecting going in, it actually delivered slightly beyond my expectations.

The issue – as always – was not with the in-ring action, but with the way it was booked. WWE got it wrong not just in all of the big matches, but in every single contest.

10 Grand Moments We Need To See At WrestleMania 32

18 March 2016 6:51 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WrestleMania, cultural phenomenon that it is, has become a stage where the moments are made that last forever, and even though fans have come to pretty much expect classic matches and big-time appearances from superstars, it’s those moments that end up making the show.

Nobody will ever forget some of the greatest WrestleMania moments of years past – Bret Hart defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania X and being hoisted up in celebration by the roster’s babyfaces. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit standing side by side as champions in the closing moments of WrestleMania Xx. Daniel Bryan overcoming all the odds to reach immortality at WrestleMania XXX.

Each WrestleMania needs to deliver a series of moments that ensure that it will last in the memory, standing alongside the shows that came before it. This year is no different, and while the card may seem weaker than usual at first glance, »

Pokkén Tournament Review

15 March 2016 7:02 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Nintendo has been more willing to let third-party developers handle some of their most important properties as of late. Some have been surprising successes for the Japanese publisher such as the Omega Force developed Hyrule Warriors. Other titles, like Metroid: Other M by Team Ninja, haven’t been received as well by fans. While results have been mixed so far, it’s been an interesting move, and it’s fun to see Nintendo go outside its comfort zone.

The latest example of this trend is Bandai Namco’s Pokkén Tournament. As the name suggests, this fighting game combines the spirit of Tekken with the characters from Pokémon. While sadly no pocket monsters are getting tossed into volcanoes (maybe they’re waiting to use that plot device for the sequel), you do get to see some of the most famous Pokémon battling it out mano-a-mano. It’s a fun idea at its core, »

Sammo Hung: Rise of the Legend (2016)

15 March 2016 3:06 PM, PDT | AsianMoviePulse | See recent AsianMoviePulse news »

Hero or villain, a Sammo Hung movie will always win. He never fails to deliver a passionate execution in true martial arts flair. Rise of the Legend places Hung toe to toe with Eddie Peng in a bloody battle of skill and youth. True to his renowned name, Sammo Hung aggressively tackles the role of Master Lui bringing to life a ruthless and intelligent leader. Even with comparatively few actual fight scenes, he still illuminates the screen whenever he’s on. His performance was powerful and bad-ass. I both rooted for him and hated him. Hung and Peng are joined by Angelbaby and Luodan Wang. Both were fierce in their respective roles.

Eddie Peng is incredible as Wong Fei Hung, also known as Little Fei. Little Fei and his sworn brother, Fiery played by Boran Jing, made a fervent vow to one another to use the rage from the loss »

10 Most Soul-Destroying WrestleMania Moments

11 March 2016 9:20 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

“The boyhood dream has come true”, gushed Vince McMahon as Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to become the new WWF Heavyweight Champion. The match-concluding ‘Sweet Chin Music’ at WrestleMania Xii has been played time and time again, and for good reason; it was an extremely heartfelt moment.

In similar fashion, seeing genuine tears roll down the cheeks of both Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero at the close of WrestleMania Xx was seriously emotional. Fans couldn’t help but join in, recognising the hard work and sacrifice the pair had consistently made to get to that point.

Moments such as those outlined above are undoubtedly ones consumed by sheer, unadulterated joy. When these moments occur, fans can’t help but punch the air in delight. Unfortunately, WrestleMania has also been home to moments after which those same fans want to punch holes in the nearest wall out of frustration. »

9 Ballsiest WWE Promos Ever

10 March 2016 6:26 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

The tried-and-true template for delivering a well-crafted promo doesn’t always cut it. Sure, it’s usually fine for a performer to come out and give the standard “I’m the best, you’re the worst, here’s a dig at your career low point, now someone get me a championship match before the crowd wakes up again” but, every once in a while, the WWE Universe needs a good shake-up.

And though it takes a rare breed with immeasurable fortitude to even attempt it, it’s sometimes necessary to put their character on the line and go balls-out with a high-risk promo.

What exactly makes a “ballsy” promo? It’s putting yourself fully on the line, without a safety net. It’s risking the possibility of falling flat on your face. And more often than not, it’s an exercise in brutal honesty. And they don’t always work. »

17 Reasons WrestleMania 17 Is The Greatest Wrestling PPV Ever

WWE.com

Wrestlemania 32 is a little more than a month away, and now that we’re firmly into Wrestlemania season, it’s time to look back at some of the great Wrestlemanias of the past. Specifically, it’s time to look at not just the greatest Wrestlemania of all time, but the greatest Pay Per View of all time: Wrestlemania X7.

Taking place 15 years ago on April 1, 2001, at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX, the show was nearly flawless from top to bottom (save a few hiccups here and there; Eddie Guerrero vs. Test comes to mind). Historically, the show was also a bookend to the most successful period in WWF/E history: the Attitude Era. It was a perfect blend of great matches, great storytelling, nostalgia, breathtaking spots, and some serious shocks.

Other Wrestlemanias have since given X7 a run for its money (Xix in 2003, 21 in 2005, and even 31 last »

9 Things You Didn’t Know About WWE No Way Out

WWE.com

In a few short weeks time WWE will present Fastlane, their February pay-per-view and the next really big stop on the road to WrestleMania. Fastlane is a new addition to the PPV/Network special calendar – before it was Elimination Chamber, a show that the WWE Universe very much looked forward to.

Before even Elimination Chamber was No Way Out, which ran between 1998 – 2009 (minus a year’s absence in 1999) before being brought back for a one-off in 2012. The event spanned the Attitude Era, the Ruthless Aggression era and the PG era, something few PPV concepts can boast.

Looking back at No Way Out cards past, if I had to sum them up it would be – so-so undercard, great main event(s). That was generally the case with the show, especially when it briefly became a single-branded affair in the mid-2000s. Many classic matches have gone on last at Nwo, »

13 Reasons To Love Eddie Guerrero Vs. Rey Mysterio In WWE

1 February 2016 10:08 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Eddie Guerrero had been pitching a feud with Rey Mysterio to WWE creative/management practically since the masked marvel arrived in WWE in the summer of 2002, a few short months after Eddie’s own return to the promotion following a very public firing and a battle with substance abuse.

The new and improved Eddie, both inside the ring and out, knew that he and Rey could produce magic if they were only given the chance to do so. The two men were constants in the cruiserweight division in WCW and stole countless PPVs and episodes of Nitro with their unique blend of Mexican, American and Japanese wrestling styles.
