Filming has begun in Wales on Requiem, a 6x60' drama created and written by Aussie writer Kris Mrksa, commissioned by BBC One and co-produced by Netflix.

In 1994 a toddler disappears from a small Welsh town, never to be seen again. Twenty-three years later, talented young cellist Matilda, played by Lydia Wilson (Star Trek Beyond, About Time), has her life turned upside down by her mother.s inexplicable suicide..

In the wake of the tragedy Matilda begins to question everything she thought she knew about herself, embarking on a quest that leads her to that same Welsh village, where the secrets she uncovers threaten to unravel her very identity.

Also in the cast is Animal Kingdom.s James Frecheville, playing an Australian who arrives in town and may not be all that he seems.

Netflix circles BBC thriller series 'Requiem'

Exclusive: Supernatural series from Indian Summers producer sets director and cast.

Netflix is in advanced negotiations to join BBC One series Requiem as a co-producer.

The 6 x 60-minute supernatural thriller, which is due to shoot in Wales from next week, will follow a young woman after the death of her mother.

Produced by Indian Summers and The Missing outfit New Pictures, the series is penned by Australian writer Kris Mrksa, who has written episdoes for Australian series including The Slap, Underbelly and Glitch.

Director will be former Screen Star Of Tomorrow Mahalia Belo, whose short Volume premiered at Sundance and won the British Independent Film Award for Best Short Film. Nfts graduate Belo most recently completed Ellen, a single 90 minute drama for Channel4 starring Jessica Barden

Set for a starring role in the series will be emerging UK actress Lydia Wilson, who has previously scored supporting roles in TV series Ripper Street and movies Star Trek Beyond and About Time »

'Game Of Thrones' actor Richard Dormer joins BBC thriller 'Rellik'

‘The Crown’ star Jodi Balfour also joins six-part serial killer drama.

Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Jodi Balfour (The Crown) will lead the cast of upcoming BBC One thriller Rellik.

Created and written by Harry and Jack Williams, the six-episode series will reverse the story of a serial killer, starting at the point in time they are caught and going backwards.

Dormer will play Gabriel Markham, a Met detective that obsessives over finding the serial killer while Balfour plays his partner, Elaine.

Described as a “bold, original and twisting thriller” by New Pictures Executive Producer Willow Grylls, Rellik (“killer” in reverse) was commissioned in 2015 after the success of Williams brothers’ The Missing, also for BBC One.

The Williams’ production company Two Brothers and New Pictures are producing for BBC One and Cinemax. All3media International are handling international sales.

BBC, Cinemax’s ‘Rellik’ to Star ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Fortitude’ Actor Richard Dormer

Richard Dormer, whose credits include “Game of Thrones” and “Fortitude,” has been cast as the lead in “Rellik,” a BBC and Cinemax serial-killer thriller written by Harry and Jack Williams, the creators of “The Missing.” Jodi Balfour, who appeared in “The Crown” and Cinemax’s “Quarry,” also joins the cast.

“Rellik” (“killer” spelled backwards) is “a structural conceit that turns the serial-killer story on its head,” according to a statement. “The perpetrator is caught before the drama moves backwards in time to the beginning — the crime itself and ultimately the killer.”

“The search for the killer provides the backbone of the story but the damaged and disfigured [London police] detective, Gabriel Markham [Dormer] is at its center,” the statement continues. “Enigmatic, unrelenting and charismatic, Gabriel is propelled in an obsessive hunt for a serial killer who left a mark on him both physically and mentally.”
