Sophia Bush’s “Good Sam” and Pete Holmes’ “How We Roll” have been canceled after just one season each at CBS, Variety has learned.
“Good Sam” was a medical drama that follows Dr. Sam Griffith (Bush), a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery after her renowned boss falls into a coma. When her former boss wakes up months later demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged her stellar talent. Complicating matters, the caustic and arrogant Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith (Jason Isaacs) also happens to be her father. As Griff defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.

David Hollander will no longer be an executive producer on the CBS comedy series “How We Roll,” Variety has confirmed with sources.
The news comes shortly after it was reported that Hollander had been let go from his role as showrunner on the upcoming Showtime series “American Gigolo” following a misconduct investigation.
Production has already wrapped on Season 1 of “How We Roll” and the show is awaiting word on a second season pick up. Should it return, Hollander will no longer be credited as an executive producer.
Reps for CBS and CBS Studios declined to comment.
Hollander had a longstanding relationship with Showtime, as he previously worked as showrunner and executive producer on the hit Showtime series “Ray Donovan.” That show ran for seven seasons and recently concluded with a feature length finale. If CBS comedy series How We Roll is renewed for a second season, it will return without executive producer David Hollander. Production on the Pete Holmes sitcom’s freshman season has been completed but if the series gets renewed for Season 2, Hollander won’t be involved, the network and How We Roll producer CBS Studios said in a response to an inquiry by Deadline.
As Deadline reported Saturday, Hollander, the developer, director, executive producer and showrunner of the upcoming Showtime series American Gigolo, produced by sibling Paramount Television Studios, was let go from the reboot of the popular 1980 movie after an investigation into allegations of misconduct. Underscoring the seriousness of the claims, both Showtime and Paramount TV Studios severed ties with the veteran showrunner.
“David Hollander is no longer on the drama series American Gigolo and Paramount Television Studios no longer has a producing relationship with him,” a spokesperson told Deadline in a statement Saturday.

Fans of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” might get something next week they won’t be expecting — a tribute to hockey.
The Disney-backed sports-media giant expects to spend part of its next halftime show treating viewers to a concert as well as a surprise visit from someone who is emblematic of the icy pastime, says Mark Gross, senior vice president of production and remote events, in an interview. He declined to name the person likely to appear. The weekly football showcase “exposes a large audience to the NFL and a larger audience” to a new NHL schedule slated to start the very next night, says the executive.
“We haven’t had hockey in close to 20 years,” he adds. “When you lose a property and then you get it back? That doesn’t happen every day.”

CBS has handed pilot orders to two untitled half-hour comedies: one inspired by TikTok star Sarah Cooper’s book How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings, from writer Cindy Chupack and producers Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi; and one based on professional bowler Tom Smallwood’s life, from writer Mark Gross and producers David Hollander and Brian D’Arcy James. They join recently ordered hourlong pilot True Lies, based on the movie, as well as several 2020 pilots from last year that were pushed by the pandemic. The network also has a CSI revival and NCIS and FBI spinoffs in the works.

When Major League Baseball kicks off its 2020 season, fans won’t be allowed to sit in many of the ballparks. Viewers who watch any of four games broadcast over Fox or Fox Sports 1 this Saturday may not notice.
The Fox Corporation-owned outlet intends to fill the seats of Wrigley Field, Dodger Stadium, Nationals Park and Petco Park with hundreds of virtual attendees, and will do the same at all the ballparks from which it broadcasts games over the next several weeks. It’s part of the company’s effort to bring fans of the national pastime a game that looks and sounds like a traditional event, not one played in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic.
“We had a vision for making our Major League Baseball broadcasts look as natural as they were before Covid,” says Brad Zager, executive producer and executive vice president and head of production and operations for Fox Sports,...

Alex Rodriguez is one of the bidders for the right to purchase the New York Mets. Which could have led to a very uncomfortable moment or two in his role as a Sunday Night Baseball analyst for ESPN when the Mets were scheduled.
Faced with criticizing players whom he might soon employ, Rodriguez was spared the awkwardness by ESPN, who said they will avoid putting him on Mets games as he remains an analyst.
The Mets’ only Sunday night game is scheduled for July 26 against the Braves. For that game, ex-Brave Chipper Jones will replace Rodriguez as the analyst. Rodriguez will instead call the Dodgers-Giants game.
ESPN has run into the situation before. Last year, Jessica Mendoza worked as an analyst for a few Mets games, even though she worked as a Mets adviser.
Rodriguez and girlfriend Jennifer Lopez have a consortium that is one of the leaders in the bidding to purchase the Mets.

Baseball has long been a game that both kids and adults can enjoy. ESPN will soon test whether that maxim still holds.
When the Disney-owned sports giant broadcasts one of the games in the annual Little League World Series on Wednesday, August 21, it will offer one traditional telecast on its flagship cable network and another geared for the younger crowd on ESPN2. The ESPN2 “kidscast” will feature two 16-year-olds offering commentary in the broadcast booth and two 15-year-old sideline reporters, who will likely be reporting on the state of the cotton candy and ice cream at the refreshments stand as much as they will on any action in the dugout, says Mark Gross, ESPN’s senior vice president of production and remote events.
“We want it to be geared to kids,” says Gross, in an interview. “We are going to work the sideline reporters for some different things. What...
