Kingdom: Seasons 1 and 2

Created by Byron Balasco.

Starring Jonathan Tucker, Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Nick Jonas, Matt Lauria, Joanna Going, and Natalie Martinez.

Synopsis:

Personal drama is never far from the cage in DirecTV’s Mma drama, Kingdom, which comes to Us DVD this week from Shout!

In episode two, Alvey (Frank Grillo) tries to tell Lisa (Kiele Sanchez), his girlfriend and tough-as-nails gym manager, that their life and gym are church and state. If this were true, Kingdom wouldn’t exist but it’s all you need to know about Alvey Kulina that he would try to claim it so.

Kingdom is set in the world of Mma fighting. Most of the characters are fighters who compete in a cage to make a living. They suffer grueling weight cuts, abuse coke and alcohol, and battle with the emotional highs inherent to the job.

‘Kingdom’ Season 3 Review: Nick Jonas Finishes Strong in a Drama That Deserves More Viewers — and More Time

31 May 2017 10:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

In the first few episodes of “Kingdom” Season 3, the excellent final season of Audience Network’s flagship drama, there are moments that are hard to watch. No, it’s not the cage-fighting, where grown men pummel each other with unsparing precision. Those are obviously painful, but just as obviously essential to the Venice-set Mma series.

As Alvey (Frank Grillo) and his gym of fighters work toward professional and personal glory, the difficult scenes sneak up in subtle asides that speak to the nuance of a great human drama. It’s just a word or two, really, fit within scenes geared toward something else entirely. They’re trigger words that make progressive-minded TV fans’ hair stand up; their guts turn; their minds uncomfortably shift as they’re reminded that the world they’re watching has its own set of rules.

The Purge TV Series To Explore The Other 364 Days Of The Year

15 May 2017 11:54 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The New Founding Fathers of America are headed to television – albeit with a twist.

Deadline is reporting today that Blumhouse Television and Universal are beginning to make serious headway on The Purge TV series, which will carve out an “entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness.”

Perhaps most surprising of all is the fact that The Purge spinoff won’t take place during those infamous 12 hours in which all crime is legalized; instead, Blumhouse Television and Universal plan to “reveal what happens the other 364 days of the year and how that law affects people.” Franchise creator James DeMonaco is in the driving seat for this one, and is expected to write, direct and executive produce the spinoff series moving forward. Little is currently known about the number of episodes Blumhouse has planned – ditto for an exact premiere date – but today’s report also notes that a fourth »

Official Synopsis For Gareth Evans Period Thriller Apostle Teases A Missing Sister And A Volatile Cult

4 May 2017 12:45 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If Dan Stevens was last seen sporting heavy prosthetic for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast – a lucrative reimagining of the fairytale classic that has since gone on to become a box office juggernaut – the actor’s next project couldn’t be more different.

It’s called Apostle, and it comes from the mind of Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans. If that name rings a bell, it should; Evans is the creative genius behind hardboiled action thriller The Raid and its divisive sequel, and after flirting with the possibility of a third film in the franchise – incidentally, the filmmaker recently gave his seal of approval to an English-language reimagining involving Frank Grillo and Joe CarnahanGareth Evans is now knee-deep in his bloody revenge thriller.

‘Stephanie’ Review: Akiva Goldsman Delivers a Solid Creepy Kid Movie — Overlook Film Festival

27 April 2017 11:44 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The horror genre often derives much of its appeal from playing into expectations and generating visceral terror at the same time. That’s certainly the case with “Stephanie,” a more-than-competent entry in the creepy kid subgenre that doesn’t break new ground but manages to find its footing anyway. Directed on a microbudget scale by “A Beautiful Mind” screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, the movie never crystalizes into the ominous extremes of “The Omen” or “The Bad Seed,” but it nevertheless develops a prevalent eeriness around the chilling performance of a young child.

That would be the titular Stephanie (Shree Crooks, the youngest member of the anarchistic family in “Captain Fantastic”), who spends most of the movie entirely on her own in an empty house. After a bizarre and somewhat cheesy opening segment set in an inexplicable dystopian future, the movie flashes back to the disquieting story of Stephanie, who inhabits her »
