Here’s a news release about the box office stats …
Coming off its first five days in release, with an estimated gross of $201.2 million***, Michael Bay’s hit sequel “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” took its place in the movie history books by breaking several major box office records.
From Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, the Paramount Pictures release joins “The Dark Knight” as only the second film in history to gross $200 million or more in its first five days. Simultaneously, the Transformers sequel eclipsed the previous Wednesday-Sunday record holder “Spider-Man 2″ by grossing nearly $50 million more in ticket sales in the U.

Having been premiered around the globe as part of its promotional efforts, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" has finally been brought home for a U.S. premiere. The special screening event was hosted by 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival and held on Monday, June 22, two days before the movie hits theaters across the country.
Red carpet was rolled out in front of Mann's Village Theater and saw the unique set up displaying Autobot leader Optimus Prime in its tractor trailer truck form at the start. Beside Optimus, another Autobot member, Bumblebee, was also present at the event. In contrast with Optimus, Bumblebee was seen in its robot mode.
Cast members, Shia Labeouf, Megan Fox, Isabel Lucas, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, Julie White, Kevin Dunn, Anthony Anderson and Matthew Marsden, were all spotted coming to the event. Director Michael Bay has slammed Paramount for its Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen marketing campaign. Website TMZ has published an email (dated May 4) from Bay to executives, among them CEO Brad Grey and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, in which the director blasts the studio for not spending enough money publicising the robot sequel's summer release. "I have been waiting and waiting for the 'anticipation' of an 'event movie' to make it into the 'public zeitgeist'," Bay wrote. "You all talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer but unfortunately this has not gotten to the public. I still run into so many people even this weekend with kids that ask (more)

Apparently, Michael Bay has not been pleased about the way that Paramount has been doing publicity for Transformers 2, and has complained via letter. Back in May, he complained to Paramount head Brad Grey that "... I have been waiting, and waiting for the anticipation of an 'event movie' to make it in the public zeitgeist" He called the print campaign an "abject failure" in the La Times, and was not happy about how it was shown at the MTV Movie Awards recently. Clues about moviemaker Michael Bay's decision to leave the Transformers world behind have been revealed in a leaked email to Paramount studio bosses.
Bay has stepped down as the director of the film franchise, starring Shia Labeouf, after two movies, insisting he has "had enough" of making big budget blockbusters.
But a new memo, sent to movie bosses and obtained by TMZ.com, suggests he was unhappy with the way his Transformers sequel was being promoted.
The email to Brad Pitt's former production partner and Paramount boss Brad Grey, dated 4 May, 2009, reads, "I have been waiting, and waiting for the anticipation of an 'event movie' to make it into the public zeitgeist."
Bay calls the print campaign for Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen an "abject failure" and insists the promotion of the movie at the recent MTV Movie Awards was "so lame".
He asks, "Is this is a cash issue with your company?"
In appears either Bay has since reconsidered his comments or Paramount bosses have appeased him with a boosted publicity campaign - because in another leaked email, written earlier this month, the director praises Grey and the studio executives, writing, "Paramount is like family. Thank you all for busting your butts and bringing your 'A game' for the release of Transformers."
The email was a farewell of sorts - last week (ends19Jun09), Bay announced he would not be making a third Transformers film.
He said, "After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions."

I have nothing personal against Brad Grey. I've never met the guy, but after yesterday's dramatic development's at Paramount Pictures, a question that is no doubt percolating through Hollywood's elite has to be asked: should Brad Grey still be the studio's CEO?On Friday, Grey dismissed his second president of the studio, John Lesher, in four years. This follows his axing of Donald DeLine upon his arrival in 2005 and the short reign of Gail "in over her head" Berman which ended in 2007. Lesher, a former Grey colleague who had previously spearheaded the studio's prestige fare with the launch of...

As the famous James Bond title goes, "Never say never again." After being kicked to the curb by Viacom chief Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures chairman Brad Grey three years ago, it "appears" Tom Cruise will return one more time to play agent Ethan Hunt in "Mission Impossible 4."According to the print edition of TV Guide, J.J. Abrams told the publication he'll produce the fourth installment of the franchise, but has not committed to direct. J.J. Abrams warps Time at will. Past, present, and future coexist as a kind of fluid that cannot be contained. The camera jumps back and forth in time. Characters age and grow younger again. Time itself accelerates, then slows. "It's intriguing to play with exactly when you learn elements in a story," says the Emmy-winning writer-director-producer, referring to Lost, his biggest hit on the small screen. "It engages audience members in a puzzle where they begin to question everything. It makes them look for clues in what they're watching in a way traditional narrative doesn't."
This temporal relativity allows Abrams to create forms of entertainment more time-bound directors cannot. And it is increasingly not only a stylistic signature, but also an added bit of leverage in the marketplace. ("We are thrilled to be in business with him," says Brad Grey, Paramount's chairman and CEO. "Bad Robot was one of the

Studio executives say they’ve been in “reboot” mode since 2006 and have needed to spend capital to get the creative juices flowing.
It’s been a brutal few years for Paramount and its chairman Brad Grey.
Buffeted by a tortured relationship with an unwilling dance partner in DreamWorks, fighting a hostile industry rumor mill and shadowed by an endless court case with disgraced Hollywood detective Anthony Pellicano, the studio finally faces the summer of 2009 on calmer, and more stable ground.
“Star Trek,” the first of two summer tentpoles rolling out on Friday, gives Paramount the chance to relaunch a classic franchise that could produce steady blockbuster spinoffs for years to come...

Proving that "Star Trek" is one of the highly anticipated summer movies this year, the Los Angeles premiere for the sci-fi film has been flooded with many Hollywood stars. Big screen actors, small screen stars and TV personalities were all spotted walking down the black carpet that was rolled down in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater on Thursday, April 30.
Unlike its world premiere in Sydney that was attended by several of its cast members, this Los Angeles screening saw many of the film's stars. Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, John Cho, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Winona Ryder were only a handful of the cast ensemble seen attending the premiere.
Other cast spotted on the occasion included Chris Hemsworth, Clifton Collins Jr., Faran Tahir, Margot Farley, Rachel Nichols and Greg Ellis. Joining those cast members on the out-of-ordinary black

Paramount Pictures has announced an extension of its agreement with Jj Abrams' Bad Robot Productions to run through 2013. I think this bodes well for Star Trek; Paramount announced today that it will extend its production deal with J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot through 2013. Abrams has only released one film through Paramount so far, last year's incredibly hyped Cloverfield, and there will likely be a sequel someday.
Trek will be the second film at Paramount for Abrams as a director, but Mission: Impossible 3 predates the Bad Robot agreement. The company will begin production on Morning Glory with Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams this summer.
"Bad Robot was one of the first deals we made to help rebuild the studio," said Paramount chairman Brad Grey. "J.J. has since become part of the fabric of Paramount, and we look forward to continuing our fruitful creative collaboration for many years to come."

Paramount isn't waiting to see how J.J. Abrams' reboot of the Star Trek franchise will do before deciding on their future with the filmmaker. The studio has extended their distribution deal with Abrams' Bad Robot Productions through the year 2013, reports Variety, continuing a deal that started in 2006. Abrams has certainly provided Paramount with a good deal of success, like last year's Cloverfield, but I have to admit a little bit of surprise to hear Paramount is already extending their deal. If the Abrams produced and directed Star Trek tanks, the studio is already locked in for more movies with Abrams. Usually I'd expect to see a major studio playing things a little more wary, particularly with something like Trek where fans can be so fickle. I don't know if Paramount execs are just that confident about the new Trek, but CEO Brad Grey is particularly excited about extending the
