Icons Exclusive Interview: Director Darren Lynn Bousman

11 May 2012 9:46 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

*Editor’s note: This interview originally appeared on Icons Of Fright’s sister site Massive Hysteria back in September of 2010. With this week’s DVD/Blu-Ray releases of both Mother’S Day and 11-11-11, we thought we’d present it again to the Icons audience completely unedited and uncut. Check it!

Considering director Darren Lynn Bousman’s impressive body of work, which spans over 3 Saw sequels, the crazy rock musical Repo! The Genetic Opera, an episode of NBC’s short lived Fear Itself TV series and the upcoming remake of Mother’S Day, it’s a surprise that we never got him in the hot seat for an extensive Icons Of Fright interview. So, with the launch of Massive Hysteria, we decided that he would make for the ideal interviewee to kick things off in style!

Bousman invited Mh over to his place for our career spanning lengthy chat, »

Rising Stars Mark Webber & Sarah Snook To Star In 'Jessabelle' From 'Saw 3D' Director Kevin Greutert

9 March 2012 7:42 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Typically, a Lionsgate horror flick from "Saw 3D" helmer Kevin Greutert isn't one to grab our attention but their latest collaboration "Jessabelle" has scored two pieces of casting that has forced our hand.

'Scott Pilgrim' star and all-round multi-hyphenate Mark Webber will star opposite rising Australian actress Sarah Snook in the film penned by Robert Ben Garant ("Night At The Museum") which will follow a woman who is forced to return to her father's home in Louisiana when a car accident leaves her without the use of her legs. It's not long before she discovers a mystery surrounding her own birth, as well as an angry ghost determined to destroy her.

Okay, admittedly, the end of the synopsis trails off into genre-land but these two leads are definitely one to keep an eye on. After 'Pilgrim,' Webber has been busy and recently took Park City by storm starring in »

Variety reports the indie actor/writer/director has just signed on to star opposite Sarah Snook (Sleeping Beauty) in Lionsgate's horror feature Jessabelle. Snook is an Aussie starlet who was among the final round of actresses considered for the role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. While that highly coveted part ultimately went to Rooney Mara, Snook now has her chance for a Stateside breakthrough, taking on Jessabelle's title character. The horror flick will be helmed by Saw 3D director Kevin Greutert, and centers on a young woman who discovers the mysterious circumstances of her birth after a horrid auto accident forces her to move back in with her father. Lionsgate was once the dominant force in the horror film landscape with the Saw series, but the studio has been fairly quiet since Jigsaw played his last game back in 2010. Now the studio is returning to its roots with Jessabelle, a new horror film from Saw 3D director Kevin Greutert. The movie follows a woman forced to return to her father's Louisiana home when a car accident leaves her without the use of her legs. Soon, she discovers a mystery surrounding her own birth and an angry ghost out to destroy her. Australian actress Sarah Snook has the titular role and Sundance favorite Mark Webber will play her childhood friend. Variety also says Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum is involved in the project, but there's no word about budget or style yet. However, with Blum involved, we can assume the filmmakers will try to turn a tiny amount of money »

In a move from indie comedy to indie horror, Variety reports that Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim, The End of Love) will, along with Sarah Snook (Sleeping Beauty), star for director Kevin Greutert (Saw 3D) and producer Jason Blum in Jessabelle. Written by scribe-for-hire Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum, Balls of Fury), the story follows “a woman (Snook) who is forced to return to her father’s home in Louisiana when a car accident leaves her without the use of her legs.” Soon, though, “she discovers a mystery surrounding her own birth, as well as an angry ghost determined to destroy her.” Webber has been signed to play “her childhood friend who helps her uncover the truth about her family.”
