Which shows and actors deserve to win at Sunday's TV Baftas ceremony? Could all the big awards go West? Tell us your hopes and fears
Read the full list of 2012 nominations
On Sunday evening the great and good of UK telly will gather at the Royal Festival Hall for the British Academy Television Awards – a celebration of the best programmes and performances of the past year that also tends to provoke controversy. (Last year's big, although entirely foreseeable upset: Towie beating Sherlock to the Bafta YouTube audience award. This year's potential upset: Celebrity Juice doing the same). So who should be sweeping off with what? We discussed the nominations – and in some cases lack of them – in a blog when they were released. But now it's time to pick our winners.
The acting categories seem particularly close this year, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Dominic West, John Simm and Joseph Gilgun all »

Matt LeBlanc's self-mocking role in Episodes is the latest in a line stretching back to Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm. But is the fad in danger of going stale?
You might know Episodes, which returns for a second series tonight on BBC2, as the show where Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig reprise their old Green Wing chemistry. Or you might know it as the show that depicts the television development process with frightening accuracy. But chances are you know it as the show where Joey off Friends plays Joey off Friends.
Or rather, the show where Matt LeBlanc plays a character called Matt LeBlanc. The fictional Matt LeBlanc is vain, paranoid and apparently in possession of a gigantic willy. The real Matt LeBlanc may be none of these things. I haven't checked. It has to be said, though, that Matt LeBlanc does a great Matt LeBlanc. And he's »

Another contestant will be knocked out this week as the remaining celebs (from a disparate pool comprising DJ Trevor Nelson, comedian Josie Lawrence, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood and mathematician Marcus du Sautoy) get thrown baton-first into conducting a famous operatic scene with the Jette Parker Young Artists and the Royal Opera House orchestra. No pressure, then. It's followed by a performance at the Roh's Linbury, after which the musicians decide who gets canned. Ben Arnold

Matt LeBlanc on playing 'Matt LeBlanc' in hit comedy drama Episodes, shaving his body hair – and how his role in Friends has defined him
At the risk of lowering the tone right away, here's something you might not have guessed Matt LeBlanc would do: he shaves his chest hair into symmetrical designer stubble with a special strimmer. "It's like a chainsaw," he laughs. "No, it's like a trimmer thing really." And not just his chest hair. "No, I manscape." He manscapes? In real life? LeBlanc glances down at his body and nods. "Sure, I manscape." But he would like to make it clear that he has an absolutely "normal-sized penis".
For myself, I would like to make it clear that this isn't typical conversational territory. It's just that a new series of Episodes is about to begin, in which LeBlanc plays an actor called Matt LeBlanc who has »

Showtime’s summer comedy, Episodes, is primed and ready to go and this new teaser poster seemingly wants us to believe Season 2 will be just as fun as the first. You’ll note the tagline for the season, placed just below series star Matt LeBlanc, says “Who needs friends.” Could that be a not so subtle reference to LeBlanc’s time on Friends? I can’t imagine somebody in charge of marketing not realizing the connection. You’d think they could come with something a little cleverer. It’s been a long time since Friends was on air, so let’s stop associating its former stars with it for all eternity, okay?
TVLine had the first look at the poster, which features Lablanc and his co-stars, Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan, in a pool of water with Lablanc hanging out nice and dry on an inflatable tube. The other two »

A promotional picture for the second season of Matt LeBlanc's comedy-drama Episodes has been released. In the artwork, the ex-Friends star floats comfortably in a pool dressed in his tuxedo, while co-stars Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan (Beverley and Sean Lincoln) flounder with soaked scripts. Earlier this year, LeBlanc won a Golden Globe for his Episodes role, a fictional version of himself (more) »

Animal Underworld | Wars: Out Of Africa | White Heat | Playhouse Presents: The Minor Character | Derek | Eastbound & Down
Animal Underworld
7.30pm, Nat Geo Wild
This show looks at mankind's often unreasonable and unfair relationship with the rest of the animal kingdom. From the economical (eating roadkill) to the barbaric (a farm where bile is harvested from living bears). There are some things here that are hard to watch, so it's comforting to have the wise and tough Henry Rollins as host; he toured with Black Flag, so seeing snakes milked for venom shouldn't faze him too much. But he's also one to stand up for the underdog, so just how much of this mistreatment of animals will he take? Phelim O'Neill

Despite sibling rivalry and murder, this tale of bees is just not buzzy enough
In a harsh landscape of barren plains, twisted forests, mighty peaks and soaring eagles, two beautiful princesses are born. Twin sisters, one of whom will become queen and reign supreme. She will command an army of devoted soldiers who will unleash terror across the land. They will take on enormous fire-wielding foes in order to defend their queen and her precious hoard of liquid gold. The other princess will die. Only one survives. Today they must fight, to the death …
The new season of Game of Thrones? I wish. No, you have to wait until Monday for that, I'm afraid. This, my friends, is Natural World: Queen of the Savannah – The Honeybee (BBC2).
Yeah, I know, but I really struggled today. Panorama wasn't available. I've lost patience with White Heat. Love Life is unspeakably and depressingly lame. »

Natural World: Queen of the Savannah
8pm, BBC2
A monarch is dead, murdered by her sister. The court is abuzz. Under the blue skies of the African savannah, "a tiny queen is about to commence her rule …" A honeyed-voiced Tamsin Greig narrates this insect's-eye-view of the life of a queen bee; they might not look dissimilar to their workers, but are distinguished by their pheromone: they smell like royalty. In this mesmerising film, we discover how such a tiny creature comes to "rule in a land made for giants". Ali Catterall

Well this is some fun news for summertime TV viewers. Showtime has announced when its programs "Weeds" and "Episodes" will return.
Season 8 of the Mary-Louise Parker pot dramedy will start on July 1 at 9 p.m. Et. So we'll soon find out whether Nancy is hit by the sniper's bullet. As usual, they will have a 13-episode season.
The second season of "Episodes," featuring Golden Globe winner Matt LeBlanc, will debut after the conclusion of "Weeds." It's been renewed for a nine-episode run.
In a release announcing the "Episodes" return, the network previews the season saying, "The second season...picks up four months after the finale with Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig) no longer living together, but forced into an awkward working relationship with Matt, as 'Pucks!' goes from a pilot to full-blown series. Friday Night Dinner has been confirmed to return for a six-part series later this year and a Christmas special. A second run of the Channel 4 sitcom - which stars Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird, Mark Heap, Paul Ritter and Tom Rosenthal - has begun filming in North London and is scheduled to air in the autumn. The forthcoming series will introduce Martin's (Ritter) mother, known as 'horrible grandma', and see both Adam (Bird) and Jonny (Rosenthal) start new romances. "Having spent the past eight months in almost solitary confinement as I wrote the show, I'm so excited to be out the house again among living human beings," producer Robert Popper quipped. "Friday Night Dinner was such a thrill to make last year, and I'm chomping at the bit to start again. And by 'chomping at the bit', I mean I (more) »

Screenwriter Paula Milne says her own experiences inspired the new BBC2 drama about a group of people through the decades
Sixteen years ago, BBC2 broadcast Our Friends in the North, a much lauded tale of four friends and social and political change that began in the 60s. Next week the channel will attempt a similar feat with White Heat.
Kicking off in 1965, the drama focuses on a group of flatmates as they move through the decades to the present day. With acclaimed screenwriter Paula Milne behind the scripts, it is perhaps little wonder the drama is being thought of as Our Friends in the South.
"As a woman, this piece is semi-autobiographical – so that is what you see on screen," said Milne. "The inevitable comparison is with Our Friends in the North, and that is a brilliant drama and showed the audience is interested in long television stories. But it »

Somewhere in the mid-Atlantic, on the deep ocean floor, there’s a waste pile of comedy ideas that didn’t quite make the transition from the UK and the Us. The challenge of translating British comedy for American audiences is fraught with failure, with every Office countered by ten Couplings. But that doesn’t stop networks from trying, and now Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub are set for the pilot of Friday Night Dinner. The Channel 4 original has been a hit over here, featuring Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap as the bickering Goodman family (and their creepy/weird dog-owning neighbour Jim) who spend every Friday night round the dinner table, which never quite goes to plan.Created by Robert Popper, the show was aired across the Pond on BBC America, and now NBC wants to give a Us version a try, with Janney and »
