Paramount and DreamWorks Pictures 2009 Picture Preview

30 December 2008 11:40 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Paramount Pictures has just unveiled their 2009 preview and in rather lackluster form I may say as new images from anticipated features such as Martin Scorese's Shutter Island, Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones and Star Trek were nowhere to be found. Fanboy favorites such as G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen also saw zilch in the updated imagery department. We do, however, have new pics from Eddie Murphy's next kid flick, the previously titled Nowhereland, now labeled as Imagine That and to be honest that is about as exciting as it gets in the updates department. All the cast, director and synopsis information is listed over the course of the next few pages as well as all the release dates for 15 new features. Surprisingly enough, only one of them is actual a Paramount Pictures solo release as the majority of these belong to their previous partner DreamWorks. »

MTV have got an exclusive banner from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek movie. I have one comment on this. What on earth have they done to Simon Pegg?! Everybody else looks normal apart from him. Bad photoshop work Paramount! The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Winona [...] »

Paramount Pictures and IMAX Corporation announced late Friday that Star Trek, directed by J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Lost and Alias), will be simultaneously released to both IMAX and conventional theatres worldwide on May 8, 2009. Star Trek, which chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow Uss Enterprise crew members, will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX Dmr (Digital Re-mastering) technology. Paramount Pictures will be the exclusive distributor of the film to IMAX theatres worldwide.

Star Trek is of course one of the world’s most successful science fiction entertainment series and media franchises. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek phenomenon has lead to six television series, ten feature films, dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and fan stories, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas. Star Trek To Be Digitally Re-Mastered For IMAX

12 December 2008 3:29 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

More Star Trek news today: It’s been officially announced that the new Star Trek movie will be released in IMAX in addition to standard 35mm film.

Guess which format I’ll be watching it in?

I’m a Huge fan of IMAX (no pun intended). In ascending order (excluding the quality of the movie being watched) here is my “movie experience scale”:

Standard 35mm film projection. Digital 35mm film projection. Digital 3D film projection. 70mm IMAX projection. 3D IMAX projection. Yes, I know - some of you hate 3D and others aren’t fans of IMAX… but this is My list of escalating movie theater experience nirvana.

Now the problem with showing Star Trek in IMAX, you may say, is that it wasn’t shot using 70mm film and the special cameras required. Ah, but there is a solution to that: They don’t just blow up the »

Introducing: Star Trek Blogging by Gorn

8 December 2008 7:10 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

[Editor's Note: Exactly 5 months from today J.J. Abrams' Star Trek hits theaters. To keep an eye (in this case two very large eyes) on everything Star Trek we've turned to Trek enthusiast, lizard, and iconic Kirk adversary Gorn for regular updates, insight, and analysis on this highly anticipated sci-fi reboot. ]

Grrrrrrrrhissssssss!

First of all, I think that Star Trek is going to be huge. Think 300 + Iron Man + Pirates of the Caribbean huge. This movie will drive you out of your Vulcan mind -- in a good way. I say that after watching some long clips that director J.J. Abrams introduced at the press event at Paramount Studios in Hollywood recently. There were a total of four -- each better than the last.

You can see a shot-by-shot breakdown of the Star Trek trailer which will be a big help if you want to visualize what we saw at Paramount.

Trek Scene #1 -- Kirk Becomes Kirk

Cocky young James T. Kirk (an excellent Chris Pine) enters a futuristic s**t kicker bar in Riverside, Iowa and puts the moves on the young, lovely Cadet Uhura (Zoe Saldana). There is a moody reptilian/alien barfly (unrelated) sitting between them nursing a drink while Kirk sweet talks her. »

Sex in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek’? Chris Pine, Rachel Nichols, Zoe Saldana Engage Full-Speed Ahead

20 November 2008 11:36 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – While “sex” and “Star Trek” typically aren’t found together in the same sentence, we learned this week from the official trailer for the new J.J. Abrams film that he’s clearly acquainting one with the other. But there’s more.

Chris Pine, who stars as the new (young) Captain Kirk, went so far as to tell Marc Malkin of E! Online that all the buzz about a particular striptease in the new “Star Trek” film from actress Zoe Saldana will live up to the hype.

“It’ll become famous,” Pine told Malkin about the Zoe Saldana scene. “[The film is] trying to be sexed up for a new generation that really isn’t used to seeing ‘Star Trek »

Screen Rant Chimes In On The New Star Trek Footage

[The following is a review/analysis of the 20 minutes of new 'Star Trek' movie footage previewed for the press on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles. It was attended by new Screen Rant contributor Brian Kettler - unfortunately I was not able to make it out to La to render my own opinion on the footage. - Vic Holtreman]

Space… The Final Frontier. These are the words preceding many of my favorite works of fiction. From the weekly adventures of Captain Picard and his Next Generation crew, to the grand & epic storyline of Captain Benjamin Sisko and his allies on Deep Space Nine , I’ve considered myself a Star Trek fan for many years. While their successors, Voyager and Enterprise, left me cold and led me to stray to find solace in other fictional universes, there was one Trek that has always held pleasant memories for me: The Original Series. Also known as “Classic” Trek (or “Tos”) for good reason, »

Cinematical Screens 'Star Trek' Footage!

18 November 2008 9:25 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

"I've never been a fan of Star Trek. It's true, I never quite got it." -- J.J. Abrams

Last night Cinematical had the chance to screen roughly 20 minutes of footage from the new Star Trek film alongside select journalists, Paramount executives and Trek director J.J. Abrams. Four scenes in total, each was a fairly critical component of the film -- and while hardcore Trekkers may have a few problems with the final product, there's no denying this rebooted version of Star Trek will kick off the summer of '09 in spectacular fashion.

Below, I'll give you a very brief summary of each scene, then spit out a few initial thoughts on it all before providing a few movie facts (based on what we learned last night). Some of this info will come as a welcomed surprise to those faithful out there, and some ... well ... let's begin, shall we:
