Hannibal Review: “Sorbet” (Season 1, Episode 7)

10 May 2013 11:29 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Okay, boys and girls, the day we’ve been waiting for (and dreading) is upon us: we’re starting to witness Hannibal Lecter in actual operation, and as one might expect, it’s truly chilling. Hannibal the series is officially a dream come true for Thomas Harris fans, and Mads Mikkelsen has officially staked his place as my favorite actor to portray the character.

Observing him from the outside and despite seeing evidence of his “work,” it’s hard to get one’s mind around his behavior (just ask Will). Hannibal is the picture (and indeed the fact) of refinement, exquisite taste, professional mastery, and, yes, likeability.  As he tells his own psychiatrist (every good mental health professional maintains such a relationship), he has “friends, and the opportunity for friends.”

We get a chance to meet some of them this week, starting with friend Mrs. Komeda (Ellen Greene), who pinned »

Hannibal, Ep.1.07: “Sorbet” – an opulent feast for the eyes

10 May 2013 10:37 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Hannibal, Season 1, Episode 7: “Sorbet”

Directed by James Foley

Written by Jesse Alexander and Bryan Fuller

Airs Thursdays at 10pm Est on NBC

The search for the Chesapeake Ripper continues, as “Sorbet” begins with a rundown of the Ripper’s nine victims. Will (Hugh Dancy) lectures his class, analyzing the mind of the killer as Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) watches from a distance. They know the killer tends to kill in threes, humiliating his victims in the process. Will profiles the Ripper, describing him as someone who is consistently theatrical, and who sees his victims as pigs, not people, displaying their corpses with a sense of mockery. If there was any doubt as to whether Hannibal was the Ripper, or not, this week lays to rest any uncertainty.

Last week’s “Entree” focussed primarily on Jack; every episode prior centred heavily on Graham, but “Sorbet” is all about Hannibal Lecter »

Bryan Fuller: Hannibal Delivers a 'Heightened Quality of Serial Killer,' With 'Operatic' Deaths

4 April 2013 4:45 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Are you feeling hungry?

This Thursday at 10/9c, NBC debuts Hannibal, executive producer Bryan Fuller‘s dark, introspective take on the budding partnership between the infamous cannibal (played by Mads Mikkelsen) and FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).

And it all began with one sentence. “There’s a line in [the novel] Red Dragon where Hannibal says to Will Graham — paraphrasing here – ‘You caught me essentially because you’re crazy, too,’” Fuller recounted in a recent conference call. “And I just thought, ‘Oh, there is a great untold bromance that I would love to see, as an audience member.’”

Exclusive Interview: Mads Mikkelson on Hannibal

2 April 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Last week at Del Frisco’s Steak House in New York, admittedly a much more intimate setting than usual, Dread Central had the opportunity to sit and dine with the latest and possibly greatest incarnation of iconic psychopath Hannibal Lecter to date, now in the form of Danish actor Mads Mikkelson (Casino Royale).

In between bites of juicy, sautéed sirloin, Mikkelson regaled us with tales of head cheese and pig intestine, so be warned if you’re snacking on something while reading.

DC: How long did it take you to perfect your style of eating on the show?

Mm: To be honest, it comes from the character. But after a while, I take notice that my own way... if I forget myself in character, I tend to go like this a lot (wraps both fists around his knife and fork). But then I look in the mirror and see the three-piece suit, »
