TV Land Orders Comedies ‘Impastor’ and ‘Teachers’ to Series

1 October 2014 4:30 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

TV Land has given series orders to two single-camera comedies — “Impastor” and “Teachers” — that are more offbeat than the cablers’ past original skeins.

Both series have 10-episode orders and are targeted to premiere next year.

“Impastor” revoles around a man on the run from a loan shark who winds up posting as a gay pastor in a small town. “Teachers” (pictured) stars the six-woman improv comedy troupe the Katydids as elementary school teachers who are earnest about helping students even as their own lives are a mess.

“’Impastor’ and ‘Teachers’ are perfect examples of the type of comedies we’re looking for as TV Land evolves its original series – innovative, unconventional, and hilariously funny for an audience that enjoys smart humor with a hint of heart,” said TV Land prexy Larry Jones.

“Impastor” stars Michael Rosenbaum, Sara Rue and Aimee Garcia. Sitcom vet Christopher Vane created the series and exec produces with Rosenbaum, »

26 March 2014 1:31 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Tiya Sircar has been cast as one of the leads in CBS’ How I Met Your Mother spinoff How I Met Your Dad, replacing Krysta Rodriguez. In the vein of the original series, Himyd tells the story from a female point of view, that of Sally (Greta Gerwig), and revolves around a new group of friends in New York. Sircar will play Juliet, Sally’s sexy and flamboyant best friend. The recasting, done after the pilot’s table read, was accompanied by some tweaking of the character, including giving Juliet a new workplace. Sircar, repped by TalentWorks and Elevate Entertainment, was on CBS and 20th TV’s radar as she just wrapped an arc on the network and the studio’s freshman comedy series The Crazy Ones, playing Sarah Michelle Gellar’s assistant and Hamish Linklater’s love interest. She also had a lead role in last summer’s feature comedy The Internship, »

"How I Met Your Dad," CBS' follow-up to "How I Met Your Mother," is undergoing a casting change.

Krysta Rodriguez ("Smash"), who was to play the best friend of the main character (Greta Gerwig), is leaving the pilot. Deadline reports the character, a successful and hard-partying woman, is going through some changes following a table read of the pilot script. As a result, the show will look for a different actress to play her.

Emily Spivey ("Up All Night") and "Himym" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas wrote the "How I Met Your Dad" script. It's a spiritual companion to/not-quite-spinoff of "How I Met Your Mother," featuring an older version of Gerwig's character telling her kids the story that led her to their father. Drew Tarver, Nicholas D'Agosto and Andrew Santino.

Rob Greenberg To Replace Pam Fryman As Director Of CBS Pilot ‘How I Met Your Dad’

20 March 2014 12:38 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

There is rarely a TV director as closely associated with a series as Pam Fryman has been with CBS‘ How I Met Your Mother. She directed the pilot, contributing to the show’s unique hybrid format, stayed on as an executive producer and helmed a staggering 172 of the series’ 184 episodes, including the upcoming series finale. So it was no surprise that Fryman was tapped as director and executive producer of How I Met Your Mother‘s proposed spinoff, pilot How I Met Your Dad, which employs the same hybrid format as the mothership series. Fryman was on board for the casting process and was at the pilot’s table read, but I’ve learned that a family emergency has pulled her away. Rob Greenberg has stepped in as director on the pilot, which will proceed with taping as scheduled. ICM Partners-repped Greenberg is a logical choice for the gig — after Fryman, »
