Lauren Green products
Lauren Green is the youngest of five children born to a welder/janitor and teacher's assistant. They lived in a three bedroom house in south Minneapolis. At a young age, Lauren developed an interest in music and art through her older siblings studies in everything from painting to piano. Although the family lacked monetary resources, there was an emphasis on all areas of learning. As a teenager, Lauren Green used her height and disarming good looks to model for local department stores and earn a little spare change. In high school, this classic beauty was a tomboy and became a member of the school's gymnastic team.
In college, Lauren majored in Music with an emphasis in piano performance. After college, she was content to make no career plans and traveled to Los Angeles using her modeling money to try her hand at being an actress. She had some success, but decided to return to Minneapolis in 1984 to compete in the Miss Minnesota competition. Ms. Green won the title over a blond-haired blue-eyed contestant to become the state's first black Miss Minnesota. Lauren went on to the Miss America competition, taking first in the swimsuit and talent competition. She was third runner up. At times, she has thanked and blamed actress Vanessa Williams for "ruining" the competition for black women. However, she also credits Ms. Williams because, without losing the competition, Lauren might not have attended graduate school.
Lauren studied at the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and then became an intern at KSTP. In Minneapolis, she was called on by old friend and high school classmate, Prince, to act with actress Kirstie Alley for his "My Name Is Prince" video in which he wore a lamp shade-type hat. After earning an on-air position, Lauren went on to Chicago's WBBM and then became the first talent to be hired through the then-new Fox News Channel.
Although Lauren Green is famous for her beauty, she is equally famous for her kindness and giving spirit. During her career as a journalist, she always strives to give viewers the whole story "straight with no chaser". In the Fox News Family, Ms. Green is its brightest jewel.
