Trivia (6)

Biological father of Paula Yates. Until a DNA test in 1997, her father was thought to be Jess Yates. The secret had been kept by a journalist and friend of Green's, Noel Botham, who made the revelation at Green's funeral that one of the children from his extramarital affairs was a television presenter. Botham identified the child as Paula Yates in a newspaper the following Sunday.
His drawling transatlantic accent was the result of spending his childhood in Canada.
His first son, Barry, was born in 1937. They never met.
He had two children from his marriage to Claire Wilson: Christopher and Linda. He also had at least five more children from other relationships.
He effectively retired from television when his series Opportunity Knocks (1956) came to an end in 1978. Although the series remained popular with viewers, Green's relationship with Thames Television executives had become increasingly strained. One particular area of contention was Green's attempts to use the show as a platform for his political views, which executives felt was completely inappropriate for what was supposed to be a light entertainment show. Green made a bitter rant against Thames in his final show.
One of his greatest pleasures was to play with his model train sets, he was also an avid collector of vintage model railway items, all of his life.
