Mackenzie Gray was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. After studying and working in London, England, he completed his training at the University of Toronto. He performed in independent films in England, but his first North American feature film was The Wars (1983) in 1983. A professional actor for over 30 years, he has appeared in over 130 films and television shows and was a series lead on a major US network. He has worked on stage in Britain, Canada and the United States in hundreds of plays, musicals and cabarets, and has provided many voices for animated series and documentaries.

Mackenzie recently starred as the new Lex Luthor in the premiere of the final season of Smallville. He just completed a lead role in Ginger and Fred, appeared in director Terry Gilliame's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, the Lifetime film Storm Seekers, as well as the Hallmark miniseries Knights of Bloodsteel. He has written, produced and directed 5 short films and composed and recorded the theme songs and score for the films Graceland and My Mind's Eye. Mackenzie also works extensively as a voice performer. He is the voice of Obadiah Stane in the Marvel Comics series Ironman and has recurring roles on the animated TV series Tetsujin, Stargate: Infinity, Actionman, Madeline, Evolution and NASCAR Racers.

Mackenzie has worked on stage in Canada, Britain and in the United States in hundreds of plays, musicals and cabarets. He was most recently seen onstage as Steve in the Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County at The Stanley Theatre in Vancouver, and as the Foreman in the latest Snickers ad for Superbowl XLV. He also played several roles in the Tom Waits/William S. Burroughs award-winning hit rock opera The Black Rider, in Toronto and Vancouver.

In addition to performing, Gray is a prolific director, writer and producer in film and theatre. He has directed at The Stratford Festival and the Canadian Stage Company, wrote and directed the Ballet/Opera The Snow Maiden at The Royal Alexandra Theatre, produced the award-winning hit play Unidentified Human Remains And The True Nature Of Love in Toronto and has directed and produced over 25 plays. He was a sitting member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Canadian Cinema for 4 years, as well as a voting member. Mackenzie is a 6-time Leo Award Best Actor nominee, a 2-time Dora Award nominee and has won or been nominated for many awards in his various disciplines. He wrote vignettes and "shorts" for several episodes of "Sesame Street" (1969) and was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the popular Toronto rock band The Fridge Stickers. Gray has won and been nominated for many awards as a performer and in his other disciplines. He taught Film History at The Art Institute Of Vancouver for 5 years and currently teaches Acting for Film at The University of British Columbia.

He is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom/Europe and Canada and divides his time between Vancouver, British Columbia and Toronto,Ontario Canada.
