The Beach Boys deserve their own biopic, a la The Doors, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles or Jerry Lee Lewis. Years ago, the California pop-music pioneers were progressing on a deal that would have brought their story to the silver screen . but plans stalled. Now, a new screenwriter has been hired, getting the Beach Boys biopic bouncing once again. WGA nominee Deirdre O.Connor has been hired by Fox 2000 to pen a fresh treatment on the Beach Boys. story, according to Deadline. The screenwriter, who worked on Lifetime.s Five project as well as the TV series The Electric Company, will work in conjunction with Beach Boys biopic director Michael Sucsy to refine their approach to the project and keep it on track. Peter Atkins and Anthony Hickox have penned the original thriller-adventure script "Blood Island" which Hickox will direct as an $18 million 3D feature for Pantheon Entertainment.
The story follows a mismatched team of treasure hunters searching for treasure and the fabled fountain of youth. Andrew Sugerman will produce the film which will shoot entirely in the South China Sea. [Source: Screen Daily]

Exclusive: Deirdre O’Connor has been tapped to write the screenplay for Fox 2000‘s movie musical revolving around the catalog of the Beach Boys. O’Connor, who was nominated for a WGA Award for her work on Lifetime’s Five project, has penned a new take on the pic working closely with director Michael Sucsy. There’s not many details on the new version, but I understand O’Connor’s script is different from the Susannah Grant pitch Fox 2000 paid north of $2 million for in October 2010. That logline had the music serving as a backdrop to an original narrative, a la superhit Mamma Mia! The pitch then: “The story takes place in Southern California over a summer in the ’60s. He'll be remaking the 2004 South Korean film A Moment to Remember about a couple struggling through the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
