‘The Vampire Diaries’ Bids Farewell to Nina Dobrev at Comic-Con Panel

12 July 2015 5:11 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Vampire Diaries” hit Comic-Con for the seventh consecutive year in a row, but a familiar face was not on the panel — Nina Dobrev, who announced her departure from the series earlier this year.

“Of course, it’s bittersweet. We miss Nina,” said creator Julie Plec on Sunday morning in San Diego, Calif. “She’s been with us six years.”

Ian Somerhalder commented on “The Vampire Diaries” future without Dobrev, saying, “It’s just an evolution of the story. Everything changes. Stories come. Stories go.”

Paul Wesley added that Dobrev’s exit, if anything, will bring a freshness to the CW series. “When a show has been on for seven years,” he said, “You need a shift in dynamic, and I think it created a new sort of world in a way. So I think it’s a fresh take on a show that’s been on for over half a decade. »

The cast of The Vampire Diaries wasted no time addressing the elephant in the room during their Comic-Con panel. Nina Dobrev's exit from the show is still weighing heavy on a lot of fans, but the show must go on! At least, that's the message Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and creator Julie Plec got across. Here's everything they said about how season seven will continue without Elena Gilbert, who is trapped in a vampire coma for the next 70 years. Check out their comments below, and make sure you're all caught up with season seven spoilers! Julie Plec: "Of course it's bittersweet. We miss Nina; she's been with us for six years. The Vampire Diaries: Candice Accola and Kat Graham on where the show will go next

2 July 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

The Vampire Diaries had a stunner of a season finale as we said goodbye to Elena and hello to a tease of Mystic Falls being an apocalyptic wasteland.

So when we caught up with Candice Accola and Kat Graham at the 55th Monte Carlo TV Festival, we had to ask them if they were happy with how the season finale played out and, of course, what they think could be coming up next.

Watch our video above for all that and why Kat thinks there'll now be more room for villains in Mystic Falls (yikes).

We also chatted about whether Bonnie will feel guilt, what's going on with Enzo, whether we'll see more of Damon and Bonnie's friendship (Ian Somerhalder's wife Nikki Reed is going to be hanging out on set!) and, er, oh yeah - something about Caroline and Stefan. We thought we should probably ask...

Tomb Raider Reboot Eyeing Female Director?

30 June 2015 8:53 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Part of me wishes that this wasn’t even news, but there just aren’t enough female directors yet snagging big-budget tentpoles as to make the following seem unremarkable: MGM is rumored to be searching for a woman to reboot its Tomb Raider franchise, revitalizing the series that made a star out of Angelina Jolie and more recently birthed a stellar video game redo from Square Enix.

According to scoopster Umberto Gonzalez, MGM wants a “Michelle MacLaren type” at the helm for the Tomb Raider remake. What that means isn’t exactly clear, but MacLaren first made her mark on the small screen, directing key episodes of prestige series like Breaking BadGame of ThronesThe Walking Dead, The Leftovers and Better Call Saul. Warner Bros. hand-picked her to direct its high-profile Wonder Woman stand-alone, but she ultimately departed the project over the good ol’ creative differences and was replaced »

TV Review: The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 22: I’m Thinking of You All the While [The CW]

22 June 2015 11:39 PM, PDT | Film-Book | See recent Film-Book news »

The CW’s The Vampire Diaries I’m Thinking of You All the While TV Show Review. The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 22: I’m Thinking of You All the While, delivers the seasons final episode…in full soap opera fashion. In the aftermath of Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) and Alaric’s (Matthew Davis) wedding, an unexpected guest shows up, putting Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) life in jeopardy. Despite Matt’s (Zach Roerig) attempt to leave town to save himself, Bonnie (Kat Graham) takes matters into her own hands after finding herself on the receiving end of a twisted plan.

You have to admit, season 6 opened with a bang and delivered some pretty heavy casualties. I thought the neck snapping fest would never come to and end. We also survived the loss of a few characters humanity. None of this could prepare us for the departure of Elena from the show. »

Why Television is Hitting the Road for Festivals

17 June 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The television business is on the move, as smallscreen festivals become an increasingly important part of the way networks and studios do business. Helping to break through the avalanche of content to bring shows and talent to fans and build social-media buzz, the TV fest circuit amounts to a nonstop promo tour that spans the globe.

Hard on the heels of the fourth annual Atx Television Festival, which wrapped June 7 in Austin, some industryites took off for the Monte Carlo TV Festival, which runs through June 18, while others will hit the first-ever Seriesfest June 18-21 in Denver. Then they’ll gear up to head to San Diego for the increasingly TV-centric Comic-Con from July 9-12.

Alexandra Shapiro, exec VP of marketing and digital for USA Network, says festivals help to distinguish a show early by providing the kind of momentum that normally would require much more marketing money. “In a »

TV Review: The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 21: I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime [The CW]

15 June 2015 12:16 AM, PDT | Film-Book | See recent Film-Book news »

The CW’s The Vampire Diaries I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime TV Show Review. The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 21: I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime, taints the air with critical thinking and possible wedding bliss. Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) help Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) with last minute wedding preparations.

Anytime an episode starts off with a nightmare, it’s usually a sign that dark clouds and mayhem will follow. Bonnie has had a very rough ride this season. Her abilities, mental game and trust have all been put to the test. She has been pushed about as far as a character can…without breaking. This opening nightmare was solid but I wondered if it was too much for Bonnie. The scuffle with Lily Salvatore (Annie Werching) was well played. The dialogue was sharp and the brief encounter was heart skipping. »
