Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan receive Lokmat awards from The President of India

At a glittering ceremony in Mumbai yesterday, Her Excellency Smt Pratibha Patil, the President of India, gave away the prestigious Maharashtrian of the Year awards for 2011.

The grand function of the awards was presided over His Excellency Shri K. Sankaranarayanan, the Governor of Maharashtra. A veritable Who’s Who of renowned celebrities and public figures from Media and various other walks of life turned up to applaud the winners for their selfless work and achievements.

Apart from the eight illustrious Maharashtrians who won the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year 2011 awards, the President presented film legends Amitabh Bachchan with the Lokmat Moty Manbindu Award and Dilip Kumar with the Lokmat Jeevan Gaurav (Lifetime Achievement) Award for their immense contributions to the world of cinema and entertainment. Both received a trophy, a citation and Rs 5 lakh each.

Jackky Bhagnani brought in his birthday (25th December) on the terrace of Pooja House, with friends and family. Srk along with Prahlad Kakkar wee among the first to walk in. Srk had a party he was hosting at his place on Christmas eve, but was gracious enough to stop by for ten minutes - which extended to an hour at Jackky's to wish him. On December 5th, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog: “It’s time to pick up that bundle of scripts that lie untouched in front and to read and go through them with a certain consideration. It is time to finalize that one film which shall give me the impetus of a challenge. It is time to move in front with eagerness and will, to claim and to study to work and to expect .. it is time!!”

Well, now it is time to announce the projects he has signed so far for 2012. He has a full plate in 2012, not only will he be hosting Kbc (Kaun Banega Crorepati) he has also signed 3 films directed by a some of the best including Shirish Kunder, Ashutosh Gowariker, and Prakash Jha.

Lifetime Achievement award to Ar Rahman at Dubai International Film Festival

The 8th Dubai International Film Festival conferred the Lifetime Achievement award on Indian music maestro Ar Rahman on December 7.

Every year the festival honors the achievement of 3 legends who are chosen from the Arab, Africa- Asia and western countries. Filmmaker Werner Herzog and Actor Gamil Ratib are the two other personalities to have received the award this year.

Dil se by Mani Ratnam and Lagaan by Ashutosh Gowariker will be screened at the festival in honour of Rahman.

Rahman won two Oscars – for Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire in 2009. His score for Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours earned Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.

Dubai International Film Festival is being held from December 7-14, 2011.

Mumbai chapter of 48 Hour Film Project to kick off on November 4

Around 80 teams will vie to make a film in 48 hours as the Mumbai 48 Hour Film Project kicks off on November 4, 2011. Director Nagesh Kukunoor, actor-director Parvin Dabas and Meghna Ghai Puri, Executive Director, Whistling Woods International will flag off the project at 7 pm at Vivian Banquets at Andheri (W).

Teams will have to script, shoot, edit and score the short of duration 4 to 7 minutes starting Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 pm and arrive at the Drop Off on Sunday November 6, latest by 7:30 pm.

All the films will be screened on Nov. 19 ad 20 at the Jai Hind College Auditorium, Churchgate, Mumbai.

At the venue, teams will be given a prop, character and a dialogue that have to be included in the script . They will also be assigned a genre through random drawing of chits. The genres include detective/cop, thriller, suspense, drama, comedy, romance, silent, anniversary etc.

The fourth day of the 13th Mumbai Film Festival continued to enthral cinema buffs. Unprecedented numbers of film goers and cinema enthusiasts thronged the cinemas.
